Really thought I was ready for a 2024 GT premium, automatic, 3:45, active exhaust. I drove one and unless I was missing something, I didn't feel it was as fast as I anticipated. Anyone else experienced that ? For the mid 55k price my mind says I can get that from a 2018-2020 for a whole lot less dollars. Am I wrong ?

was it in sport mode? and when you said 3:45 did you mean it had 3.55 gears? did you get it up near redline? If it didn't feel fast you either drove a car with problems or your current car is a Hellcat. A low to mid 12 second car should at least feel pretty fast.

I don’t think… you’re not going to feel a huge difference between a sts550 and s650….
For just a fun car buy the one you like better…

in fact I’m going to say 99% of people probably couldn’t tell the difference in acceleration…

some people will like the S650 better… some the S550 better… both are great cars especially since they are fundamentally the same car underneath…

There is no wrong answer here…

I say buy the one you think looks better…

My 21 base GT auto vs 24 GT premium performance pack... Exactly the same at the drag strip when stock, Street tires, same DA, same track.

My 24....... Has lost a ton of value in only 7 months. Any new car will but the mustangs seem to drop like a rock until they get into the $35-38k range. Something to consider.

My new interior and the much better looking front end are a nice upgrade over the 21 I had. The interior rattles like crazy just like my 21 and the infotainment system is still a glitchy joke. The B/O sound system wasnt the upgrade I thought it would be.

Overall, I kinda regret getting a 24. When the pro charger is actually available, maybe I'll change my mind. If budget is important, I'd get a low mileage S550 and put all the goodies on it that I wanted.

I wasn’t there so I have no idea what it was but yes, you were missing something. These cars are pretty darn fast and feel that way. If your current everyday driver is a supercar or something maybe you’ve gotten used to it, but otherwise something was off.

If all you care about is how fast it feels, yeah save yourself some money and get an older car. I have a 20, two 23s and a 24 from 460 hp to 486 hp. They all feel pretty close, which is to say fast. And unless you spend time at the strip, stop worrying about the rear end ratio. If you’re calling the 3.55 a 3.45 I seriously doubt you could tell any difference between the standard 3.15 and the 3.55.

Hope you find something fast enough to suit you but I’m not sure what it‘s gonna be.

The drive by wire has a slow map.
The 1st half of the pedal is like economy mode no matter that you’re in.
You need to get comfortable absolutely stomping the pedal and let it ring out.

Slight anticlimactic is usually a result of excessive exuberance incorrectly applied, not hammering - tempering. Try applying the same ‘don’t care, gonna wring it out’ that one has a tendency to deploy with an older/used/rental.

A standard GT with an auto is using a 3:15 gear in the rear.

A GT with Performance Pack and auto has a 3:55. It also reads the 3:55 is a stand-alone option.

If you were driving a 3:15 in standard driving mode, I can see the car feeling sluggish. If driving the latter, in Sport Mode, I'd expect the car to drive well.

If the car was a test drive, off the dealer lot, the auto still might have been in learning mode, still adjusting to the drivers' (several) characteristics.

IMO, performance differences between a S550 and S650, package for package, will be down to the driver and the tires. There's no significant difference in the S650's vs. the S550's drivetrain.

To me, purchasing one over the other will come down to interior and exterior styling vs. pricing.

Many appreciate the better interior materials in the S650, screens and overall upgrade. The facelift to the exterior is well-liked. But the pricing can be a detractor. And the current lack of tunability. The S550 will give you the best bang for the buck on an older, but proven and well-documented platform.

No wrong answers. Depends on what you're looking for, why your in the search for a new car.

Good Luck in whatever you decide. :please:

I'd go '24 for the interior improvements alone. If you decision is based on performance alone I doubt you will find much difference between the S550 vs S650. But again the interior is WAY better on the new one IMO.

My 2024 seems a bit sluggish on a normal take off, set at normal. On the other hand, once the rpm's are up the car is fast. I would say it would smoke my 2008 GT500 (Stock 500 hp) without and problems.
The S650 has a great interior. I'm not in love with the dash but I'm sure the X-Box crowd gets their jollies from the screens!

When you first fire it up it's in what Ford calls Normal Mode... it more accurately should be called Eco Mode because that's exactly what it is, and the only mode that is used to represent the EPA stated MPG. It's horrible and that's a fact. Unless of course your on empty and the next gas station is 53 miles away. Put it drag mode with traction control ON in a safe area and from a dig give 1/2 throttle to 60 mph then come back here and tell us you think it's slow. lol

If you want to see a true eco mode subbed for a normal mode, drive an untuned ’17-’20 Raptor. You wouldn’t know it from how it drives in normal, but they will do 0-60 in under 5.5 seconds and a low 14 1/4 mile, 35’s be damned.

I’m good with the Dark Horse normal mode. Aside from the thrashing it puts on the rear tires ;-)

i use an elcheapo amazon throttle controller the 23 my controllers work just fine btw. Helps big time. I like the more linear throttle in track and drag but the maps from the factory is a giant dog. Normal feels like its got a boat anchor dragging behind it. Drag and track feel way to cumbersome with the throttle the way it is from factory.
