So you want Ford to sell it for less than they make it - great business idea!
no I want them to sell it for less I don’t believe it costs them anywhere near what they sell it for. Ford has t put any money 💰 to this chassis since 2015. Still a steel unibody but everyone wants all these bloated features so now we are 4000lbs for a dark horse.

Mustangs were $30,000 in 2018-2019 because nobody paid msrp so ford was making money at $30,000. Add in some inflation should get us to about $38,000. But they want $60,000 for a no option track package car now.

Yes, the Mustang is fun to drive, but as I've said several times here on the forum, the Ranger is within .2 seconds to 60 because it is tuned and piped. Ford, in their infinite wisdom, has seen fit to lock down all of their current lineup. This includes the F150 Raptor and RaptoR. The only (real) question is why? Heck! They don't even monitor this forum anymore, so these words and others like them, won't see the light of day! We are diminished!
Obviously there is a lot more to a mustang that just a 0-60 time though. To name a few: the sound of the V8, the visual design, and the fact most people now drive a truck or some type of SUV. It feel cool to be driving something with 2 doors in my opinion.

Doesn`t matter how fast a truck is, its still a truck.

It's price like most have said. It's not the economy. Maybe partly covid time period lost sales a reason for overpricing and trying to make up past profits. My wife just bought a 2024 Escape with sticker for $36,000 out the door for $33,000. Can't tell me the V8 premium Mustang costs $20,000 more to make than an Escape. Pitiful.
They sell 3-4 times as many of them, you never know

I know last time I bought a new car I got $60 to fill out this survey

What other cars did you look at
What factored into your choice
How would you rate this or that

Would be interesting to see what people that also looked at the Mustang, but didn't buy it, ended up going with

You could have bought a GTI, Kia Stinger, Tesla Model S, BMW, Supra, Corolla GR86, Subaru WRX, leftover Camaro or Challenger, Civic Type R....

I bought my car in April - MSRP was $59,795.
The exact same build on the website is now $66,825. That is a $7,000 increase for the exact same car! They are pricing these cars into extinction!
I absolutely love my car but it is not an almost $70,000 car.
And for $70,000 I’d be stupid to not consider my other options.
It really is that simple.
I wonder if Ford is doing the price increases on purpose???? Being one of the few muscle cars left, this opens the door to dropping the Mustang and going with EV as the only car/SUV in the ford lineup. Just saying!

People tend to associate the cost of living to the economy. but they are 2 different things. The economy right now in terms of labor market is completely fine. The market need to adjust pricing to meet income levels.

I like mine.

But it’s a working class car that most working class people can’t afford. I’m fortunate. I don’t have children, wife, divorce(s), child support or mortgage. Most guys struggle to support all of the above and an extra, impractical car is out of the question. Those that do, mostly seem to buy used with a stupid interest rate that's not depreciated enough. For whatever reason, though, people that can afford it justify a pickup easier despite never hauling or pulling anything.

I don't get the BMW comparison I see on here. You have BMW buyers and Ford buyers, there's very little overlap.

Don't worry about what the public prefers. They buy the CVT Nissans and Subarus.

You do know Ford make very slim profits don't you?

In 2023 they made about $3k per car.

Mustang Blue had a margin of 7.2% in 2022 (the ICE Mustang sales)

If I hadn't of owned a Ranger already, I would not have purchased a 2024 Mustang. Here are a few salient points. The 2019 Ranger replete with Borla-supplied, Ford exhaust system, is at least 20dB quieter than the 2024 Mustang Eco-Boost's stock system! The Mustang's ride is harsher by far, than the Ranger. The Ranger's over all driving experience is heads above the Mustang's. You don't sit in the Mustang, you wear it! Its ingress and egress is difficult in comparison, which is a major consideration if you're on date. I've owned the Mustang since the first of September, and I'm still under 1,200 miles on the OD. Never been out of town with it, but I can't imagine driving it across country unless I put in my ear plugs.

You are just comparing a truck to a coupe, which is apples and oranges.

Evidence ‘name’ doesn’t make the model.

For whatever reason, though, people that can afford it justify a pickup easier despite never hauling or pulling anything.

From some random car research website:

Research published by the Federal Reserve shows the age of a new car or truck buyer has grown older over the past decade. It is now around 53 years old. They also note that among new vehicles buyers, the 55+ age group has a 15 percentage point increase since 2000.

From Ford:

The Mustang had not only retained its youthful appeal but more importantly it attracted new buyers to Ford. The median age of purchasers was 31, with more than 28% of the buyers younger than 25 years old, compared to age 42 for the median purchaser of the regular Ford car.

I think that is key. The younger kids don't want or can't afford a new car.

I always thought there were 3 main buyers for the Mustang.

Older people who are buying their 'nice car' or 'fun car' and maybe close to retirement. They have the money for it, blah blah. 30%?

Middle-age people who are buying it, can sort of afford it, they probably also have a mini-van, wife had to approve this one. 42%?

Younger guys who either have a high paying job and can afford it since they have no other bills, or have a relatively low-paying job but are committing financial suicide by buying some car they can barely afford (been there, done that) 28%

And then I think the middle group would be affected most by prices, interest rates, the economy, etc
