This… my pay is up over 50% in the last 4 years… closer to 60%

and I’m normal blue collar working class guy.
So many people I know went from 10-12$/hr to 15-17$ and are just basic entry workers.

It is apparent that a lot of folks here weren't alive in the late 40s through about 1955 or so. I say this, because WWII caused shortages similar to those experienced during the Covid pandemic. Add in a ton of political crapola (another similarity), a large influx of immigrants (yet another similarity), and it will probably be another year or two before things get back to any kind of normalcy.

Further our supplies sources (over the years) have become more global rather than Anglo-Centric, and it appears we're changing back to the latter. Whether this is a good thing or not, remains to be seen. In the mean time, let's all grab our shorts, least we lose them!

I was alive in the 40's and 50's. (No old age comments, please.) I think there are a number of contributing factors today, just as there were back then. Yes, cars have become much more complex and efficient. It seems to me that car manufacturers are constantly trying to outdo each other when it comes to technology and electronic wizardry. Back in the 60's you could delete radios, air conditioning, and a myriad of other features from "muscle cars." Personally, I don't want or need a car that drives itself, a zillion interior light color options, a computerized dashboard, all kinds of memory features, and intelligent this and that. I want a performance car that is fast, handles well, and has knobs for the heat, A/C, radio, and other features. Again, I know I'm old and probably a little outdated in my thoughts. There's a saying from the good old days. KISS. KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID. If I want a car with all the bells and whistles, I'll buy a Cadillac or a Mercedes. Just sayin' . . .

You spew the same lies every Boomer does. You all claim you don’t want light options, want knobs, no extra computer wizardry, don’t need this or don’t need that but what do you have?- A 401A Premium with, PP, NP,AVE, and MAGNARIDE.
Everyone of these guys talks like this and what do they have in driveway? A Lexus, High end Subaru, Cadillac, Platinum F150, Denali lol!

FYI I have a 2018 Malibu and a 2017 Ford Escape in my driveway. Yes, I do have an optioned out 2024. I very seldom use air conditioning or any of the other features. I was thinking ahead to resale value because that's what younger people want today.

Charmingly put! Whether people agree with you or not, posting in such a manner is unlikely to gain any respect for your views!

Oh and I am a boomer (just) and I neither lie nor spew about my preferences!

As an aside - use the AC system or it will dry out and the seals will fail.

I typically run my A/C for about 30 minutes in the spring and about the same length of time in the fall before I put bit into storage.

It needs more than that I'm afraid.

I have always pressed 'auto' on day 1, set the temperature and then never touched it again. Have done that for at least 30 years!

I'm sure you're right and I'll give it a try. I've never been a fan of A/C in my cars or at home. Don't even use it much in my daily drivers. Just me. I never used it in either of my C7 Z06's, but my '16 only had 3,000 miles on it when I sold it, and my '19 had 4,000 miles on it when I sold it. I had a highly modified '98 C5 for 16 years with A/C and never used it at all, other than in the spring and fall as I mentioned. The A/C was still amazing cold when I sold it to a friend in 2015.

It isn't just for cooling of course. In the UK it is as much for demisting!

'Auto' is full climate control so the car gets to the chosen temperature by warming or cooling the car and then maintaining it.
