And this is retail price. Not cost to building the car which is why we are talking about cost vs profit. I think this shows there is a lot of profit in the GT price right here.
Honestly, who gives a crap? We are not manufacturers, we are not retailers. We are consumers. Profits and margins do not apply to us as we have no control of them. The discussion of them is totally irrelevant.

Except it's what we are talking about. Cost and profits both influence the price. So, in the end we all give a crap what the cost of the Mustang is. I still say it's the main reason sales are low.

Of course, I get that, but. The car costs what it does. It not changing, at least as far as it going lower. Ford is totally aware of what it is doing. Sales are what they are and Ford seems ok with it. The rest of it is just fat for us enthusiasts to chew on.

What would you like me to tell you?

That the Gen 4 is basically the same as the Gen 3 engine except for the intake manifold

Or

That you posted a link to the aluminator crate engine, not a stock gen 4 engine, and that's why it costs more?

"Aluminator" crate engines built to deliver higher performance. The 5.0 Aluminator NA is built with connecting rods and pistons designed specifically for high performance applications. Mahle® 12.0:1 compression ratio forged pistons are hard anodized and feature Grafal® low friction coating. The connecting rods are premium Manley ® H-beam with ARP® 2000 bolts.

Here is the same engine from another site at $1500 lower price. Some here say Ford only makes $3000 on average profit on Mustangs. Here is an example that Ford is making half that much or more just on an engine! Remember, this website is making a profit on its $1500 lower price so, Ford is probably making $2000 or more on the sale of their crate engine on their Ford Performance website. It's like a lot of inflation. Businesses charge as high as they think they can get away with.

Looks like Ford employees can get 15% off parts too...

Well if you are happy to ignore Ford Blue officially lodged figures then crack on and make up whatever you like!

If Ford were making what you suggest they would be doing better than Porsche and ALL other car makers except Ferrari. Is that really likely?

Sure it is. But, they may have horrible money management that ruins great profit products. The figures I posted above don't lie. They are what they are and that 5.0 crate engine Ford is making way more than Pauls Automotive Engineering.

Oh dear - you better go and give them a hand then.

Ford make more money per car than Porsche shock!

A short story on market pricing and profit margins.

Way back in my late 20's I worked for a super high end audio store (video wasn't a thing them). We had just received a new moving coil cartridge that was being hailed a the best in the world. Since we had an exclusive to it we could price it wherever we wanted. The MSRP was $500.00 (in 1980). At dinner one night with my boss and the owners we decided let's see what the audiophiles would really pay for the best. So we decided on the spot to sell it for $1,000.00. What's the worst that could happen? We wouldn't sell any. What did happen. We couldn't get enough of them. And no one asked what are profit margins were. :giggle: :like:

In some cases, it's the economy that has everything upside down. Sadly, wages haven't kept up with prices. The new Mustang is just overpriced and now add $5K going from 2024-2025. Many younger folks have no interest in a muscle car. I see more young guys driving F-150's, RAM's, Silverado's, and Toyotas. My GT Premium was a bit over $56K. You can buy a really nice pickup for $56K that has more resale value. Young people can haul a family around in a quad-cab and the guy still has his toy.
The new Mustang has a terrible color selection. The X-Box dash is a bit overboard. Most folks look at that dash and wonder what the replacement cost will be when the warranty runs out.
I'm a Baby Boomer. With the equity I had in my Shelby, I was able to buy my GT at a decent price. When a young person sees a $1000 per month payment, that takes the fun out of ownership. If I outlive the car, I will sell or trade it when the warranty runs out. While I have it, I will enjoy it. I grew up in the Happy Days of cars. BTW...take a look at most new car dealers. They have cars stacked to the ceiling. I don't think Mustang is the only one.
I agree with you on the color options. I traded in my 2014 Ruby red convertible GT premium for the same version 2024 in vapor blue, but was disappointed to find it’s “ barely” metallic. The redesigned body has grown on me and I do like the improved handling however, I am also nervous about the all-digital dash which may be the deciding factor for selling it when the warranty expires.

Don't worry about the dash. Nothing new (The S550 had the same from 2018 with only a few early gremlins) and screens are very reliable.

Vapour blue (same as mine) is an unusual colour, as you say almost flat in grey weather but really sparkles in then sun. I had a Ruby Red Mondeo (Fusion) and that really popped all the time.
