I've watched this thread as it has evolved over the past few days. Read most of the comments etc. etc. My guess is whoever had this car was not a true Mustang enthusiast or passionate car person (1st owner). They may have thought they were. My first thought was someone on the younger side. I'm now second guessing that thought due to the type or plaque applied (Referring to 502 HP).

First thing I would do is remove all of the cheesy claimed HP plaques. These plaques scream 1980's or earlier style. Makes me think the previous owner was not that young.

It's confirmed the air filters have been changed.

My guess is the carbon traps have been removed.

Previous owner watched some of the many YouTube videos and came up with the HP number by some claimed gains they saw.

Claimed Air filter gain + claimed carbon trap gain = 502 HP.

Cosmetic mods done are what they are.

Previous owner went online and found a plaque engraving company and filled up the max available room on the plaque with mumble jumble. Received and applied said plaques.

Also, I don't know of any true Mustang enthusiast that refers to the Coyote engine as a MOD 5.0. as seen on TV oops meant to say the window sticker. Remember back at the beginning of this thread when everybody including myself was thinking MOD was modification abbreviated. It was not until an astute forum member pointed out the way the 5.0 reads on the window sticker.

Not a chance in you know where this car has ever been on a DYNO. Car manufactures post crank HP. People who put their cars on a dyno post wheel HP numbers. This car is not putting down 502 WHP either way.

To the OP. All of what I've said above relates to the discussions that ensued from your post. I would not mention any of your concerns about the car with any Ford Service personnel. Absolutely, no need to open this line of inquiry. There is nothing good that will come from this. Maybe nothing bad either. No positives, only potential negatives.

OP - Drive the car, service the car. I see no need to dig up the pasts on a car that is not that old with very minor entry level DIY modifications.

One last comment - Zero chance this car has long tube headers.

Oh have I digressed.......

I’m not sure but I do not think anyone here has come down on Carmax. They are a good company, at least the Myrtle Beach location. My son in law got his BMW there. But they do sell cars that have been modified. And, honestly, that’s reasonable since not everyone frequents the online forums. You can’t find something if you don’t know what you are looking for.
The forum has really helped me and I thank those who gave me solid advice. I went to Carmax, showed them the plaque, the air filters, and pointed to where the carbon traps would be (thank you YouTube) and convinced them to check and make sure they were not removed. They commented that I did my research on the car :) That will happen early next week..then I sped off.

Agreed 100%. This is why I can’t buy a used car. Unless you buy from the original owner you never know what could have been done to the car. That would drive me insane.

OP I see you are in Tucson. I am up in Phoenix and am happy to figure out a time/location to check the few items here in question for you. But I would NOT be afraid to keep this car and other than removing the plaque would do nothing but enjoy it.

I just checked his location, too. Central Florida is a little far away, but I hope you are able to meet up to help!

no aftermarket intake for the S650 has done that yet
I was just speculating. I've seen larger jumps than that from just upgrading intakes and filters. I wasn't claiming that's exactly what it was.

You’re way behind. OP has already told us that he has Steeda filters. The issue of carbon traps has yet to be determined.
I didn't read every reply. I was just speculating based on the initial post.

Thanks, Ducatti. I am going to keep the car. Next week, Carmax is checking to see if the carbon traps have been removed, so I'm not going to worry anymore. I'm not sure how to remove the plaque, if it needs heat or not....but I'll figure it out.

WOW.... I can't believe the air time this has gotten. Remove the stupid and inaccurate sticker already. BTW you think your GT has 480 or 486 HP and your DH has 500 HP.....MAYBE - because as anyone who has ever built engines (I have) or knows squat about HP KNOWS that there is a 5% difference between the manufacturer's stated HP ratings of "line assembled" engines .... which are likely inflated AND taken in optimal conditions that you won't drive in 99% of the time. Hand built engines that are on a dyno "out of the vehicle" are the only true HP ratings. So I advise have a blast and enjoy the h3ll out of driving your Mustang and leave the HP bragging to the coffee and cars crowd. This is a 350 we stroked to a 383 that was finally dialed in at 390 HP on the family dyno. As I said enjoy your car and if you think you can "feel" another 10 HP in your car that already has 480HP - you are delusional.

It was never about the HP, it was about modifications that could cause an issue with the Ford warranty.
