Ever since I removed the carbon traps, the check engine light comes on. Plugged in the STC X4 tuner and deleted the air flow code. However every now and then the light comes on again. The car still runs normal and I could probably leave the light as it is, but it’s annoying to drive a new car with the check engine light on. Is there a way to disable the air flow sensors?
Thanks

Even though it stays clear for 1,000 miles or so until it comes on again? If the sensor’s damaged shouldn’t stay on after I cleared it?

Not always.
They might be damaged just to the point where they log on the hairy edge of good/bad. With the SN95 cars this was common when people would install a K&N filter, not follow the instructions and either over oil it or not tighten the clamps properly. The MAF sensors are extremely fussy and delicate. I would go over the intake system and look for issues. Tighten things up and so forth.

Maybe thru use of a FORSCAN. Put the carbon traps back in, see if that remedies your problem. Taking the traps out does not provide any benefits other than messing up the ECM, which apparently has occurred.

I’ll try that. Thank you

Best idea mentioned was to put things back to see if it goes away to rule out any hardware issues. I’m sure these computers and sensors are sensitive and will show an error when numbers are out of whack.

I would be tempted to review the ducts and the sensors and maybe even try the stock filters to see if you can drive past the error.

removing the obstruction isn’t gonna make that much of a difference, remember, it’s been ‘shown’ no major improvement so therefore any ‘improvement’ should be minimal at best other than an air leak shouldn’t cause a ses.

I've noticed some dry, re-usable filter kits for the DH, from Steeda. I checked Air Raid and Ford Performance for their offerings; they do not have any, for now.

Agree with others: inspect your work, ensure all is clean, secure and revert to the stock air filter. You can continue to go back, search for and study dry, washable offerings as they become available.

I took mine out at about 1k miles and now have 5500 miles and no issues or CEL.

Not sure of any power benefit but the total area they “block” is fairly large and common sense tells me more air = more power.

As for the sensitivity of the MAF, I have no idea without measurement equipment but agree to check all connections.

Stock air filters, no carbon traps on mine, with no issues. People fall into two camps with K&N's, but we see a lot of problems caused by them at the dealership level, with either over oiling or not cleaning often enough, especially on diesels. Loose clamps are a problem also.
If you can believe youtube, K&Ns showed no appreciable gains (like 1-2 hp) on our cars, and carbon trap removal was claimed to be worth 10-12 hp. I'm with the poster above, the less restriction the better.
