I have been thinking about this too. I need to go back and read the contract of sale, but I presume that - worst comes to worst - I could probably legally withdraw from that contract and demand my deposit back. That equates to just under $3K in my case, so not really very much compared to the price of the vehicle itself.I wonder if we can demand any sort of compensation. The problem is that strictly speaking we havent actually bought these cars yet. And if you decide not to take it, there are many others that will. So I doubt they will give us anything for our trouble.
At one point the dealership manager did say they could offer me an alternative car (well, same car specs but a model built a few months prior). They are now trying to steer me away from that option, presumably because it would require them to reduce the price and eat into their margin.
Ultimately I do still want this car. But I'm starting to get antsy, not just because I've waited a long time, but also because it's starting to cause problems in my life (lack of transport is starting to bite and cost me more money). That's why I told them: if this is going to go on for weeks and weeks, they need to come to the party and provide me with a demonstrator or something until my car is ready.
If this goes on for weeks AND they fail to assist me in some other way... then I may need to pull the plug entirely, which would suck for a whole host of reasons. :\
At the moment all I know is that my car is being worked on today and that I'll get a definite update tomorrow morning. I'm crossing everything, but I really don't have much hope for a positive outcome.
