For the first few months of ownership, I’ve been able to put all the windows up pretty quickly after raising the top by pulling up on the auto front switches then holding the switch for the rears so they all close at the same time.

Lately though, when I do this, the passenger side rear window has been stopping with a bit of a backward tilt and not sealing up against the front window properly. So I’ve started having to completely raise the rear windows first and then raise the front to get a good seal, which takes more time.

Even with this, I’ve noticed that there’s still a bit of backward tilt to the rear window when closed so that it’s not sealing as well as it could to the front, even if there’s no visible gap. If I open the door, physically grab the rear window and tilt it forward, it seals OK.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something easily fixed, or a dealer thing?

Something is wrong with the track for the rear windows. Definitely a dealer/warranty issue.

It's probably not the track. The fix is to spray some silicon lube on the top fabric strip that seals against the top of the window. My 2017 convertible had the same problem. It's pretty common. Needs to be treated every 6 months or so.

Hi there! I can look into your mustang's window concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your mustang's VIN?

I was going to reply with that exact same answer. Mine was a 2018 and a dealer actually replaced the operator for the back window once under warranty. When it happened again I decided to try silicone spray and never had the problem again. Sprayed it once a year and never had to worry about it.

Hey Ford,
you definitely won't have to check a specific VIN:
This has already been a very common issue on the Gen 6, if I remember correctly, there was even a TSB for it. The linkage (or locator as @jeffnudi called it maybe) has to be greased and readjusted.
Was done on mine also once and the next year it started again and I also went the silicone spray, sprayed on a paper towel and gently rubbed to the insiode of the rubber sealing of the top.
It will make the upper edge of the rear window look awful when the top is down though.

So I’ve started having to completely raise the rear windows first and then raise the front to get a good seal, which takes more time.
This is the better way to do it anyway to reduce wear of the sealing rubber of the top.

I've heard this has been an issue with the S550 as well. I saw a similar issue when putting up the front windows first. I now always pull up the rear window before raising the front windows. That works every time.

Update: Took my car to the dealership yesterday and it's fixed. The RO just said "ALIGN BOTH RIGHT SIDE GLASS" and mentioned removal of the passenger door trim, which suggests they may have adjusted the track on the door window as well as tweaking the rear window glass track.

I'm going to try lubricating the rear upper seal to prevent recurrence, as other users have suggested.

The dealer got it right. In both the last gen and this one, the problem is that the entire rear window assembly (the glass, motor and frame) can pivot. it is held in with 2 bolts...a bottom and a top...if the top bolt is loose the entire assembly can pivot toward the back of the car leaving a gap. Many people will grease the window and claim victory but it is just a stop gap measure. The key is to losen the top bolt and pivot the mechanism forward again. I had a 2013 and got real good at it...it is a bad design. I had hoped that ford would have fixed it but my 2024 bought in may is doing the same thing. This video is a good tutorial on what to do to fix it.

Thank you! This doesn't look like an overly daunting fix. I'm bookmarking this for when the warranty expires.

its pretty easy... Once you have done it once you can just pop off the top flat panel...then pull out the side panel just enough to get a wrench and your hand in it. Loosen, adjust, tighten and snap it all back.
