The GT350 is such a heartbreak. Back in 2015 I went to a special GT350 event at Laguna Seca that revealed the car to Ford enthusiasts. I drove two laps and rode for a lap of two with one of Ford's pros. I was sold immediately. That engine is like a thousand pounding hammers when your on the throttle, I love that engine. Fast forward 2016 when I had the car for maybe two months w/ approx 3K on it. Driving home from work cruisin' on surface streets my instrument cluster lit up w/ badness, crunching sounds under the hood and coolant spitting out the tail pipes...the engine died a painful death.Im going to say .....the problem with the Mach 1 was that it followed the GT350...... not that there is anything wrong with the Mach 1 - I love me a Mach 1 HP car in Eruption Green......
I also wouldnt get too crazy on saying the people are lining up the door for the Dark Horse either- same thing...make mine a grabber Blue with handling pack and recaros please - but the bottom line is you can get one for under sticker now .....
During the entire run of the 350 and 500- you could never get one under sticker or if you did it was extremely rare......
but it all comes at a cost- out of warranty there are some VERY expensive parts that can break on the 350 and 500 .....but on the Mach 1 and Dark Horse.....relatively much less money if you have a catastrophic failure....
My car is under warranty until June of 2027 - still yet to be determined if I will sell it with a year warranty left and end up with a Mach 1 or Dark Horse in my driveway- or whatever else Ford may offer then.... I may go C8 Z06 as well.... just depends on what college the kids get into lol
If I owned a Mach 1 or Dark Horse- I wouldnt think twice about owning one outside of warranty.....would be very comfortable with it....my car not so much .....
Ford offered to replace the engine but I had my dealer call the right people to get me a new 2017. I took delivery of that one and had it for 6K miles or so. I sold it after maybe a year as I just didn't have faith in that engine.
I now have a '23 HP Mach 1. The Mach 1 was Ford's response to the GT350 that was costing them dearly in having to replace so many engines, cars and other related liabilities. I don't think the Mach 1 was planned initially until they started getting hit with those costly warranties. I really wish that the FPC engine worked out as I really do think it's one of the best engines ever, it's just not reliable. If it were, they'd still have it in the line up continually improving it like they have in the Coyote engine.
Love my Mach 1, it's a great car but it certainly is a trade off. Better torque down low, maybe more steetable than the GT350, but I still want that 5.2 in it sometimes. I'm just not willing to go through owning a GT350 again and certainly not out of warranty.
I secretly hope they haven't given up on the Voodoo and reveal the next Mustang has an updated version of it, but I think that ship has sailed.
