I might be a lone ranger here, but I would love to see T-tops make a return. Very 80s for sure, but they were cool! I saw a fox body with them recently and just the nostalgia is awesome! Not sure how that would look on the S650, but why not?

Looks nice. I've never owned a BMW but the one I drove had like a little flap that extended downward into the trunk when the top was lowered. I liked the retractable hard top but even BMW decided it wasn't the way to go anymore.
It only adds about 400 pounds 😱

Not me. They regular Mustang is enough of a rattletrap as it is, and frontend of a ragtop flips flops and flops all over the place. Plus Ford can't make a hardtop convertible that doesn't leak when it rains. Drive the thing in Floreeda on a sunny ☀ day and pow the 🌧 comes down. Plus you'll have to pester your neighbor to help remove the think. Or get a hoist for the garage.

There have been several convertible hardtop Mustangs, but all were outsourced to various contractors. I almost bought a McLaren Mustang with a removable hardtop, but there are limits to how many Mustangs I can own. I do miss the glass roof Gen 5 models.

BTW, the Lincoln MKZ retractable roof is the best way to go, but the more complexity means more weight and more potential for failure.

Honestly what I would love is a glass roof option like they used to do in 2009. I understand they weren't popular at the time, but so many more cars have them as options now. Even the Mach-E.
This. Had one on my ‘11 and LOVED IT. Best option on the car. Keeps it simple and leak proof with that open air feel.

If it was an option today id have a S650 in my driveway

Ford don't exactly have a good track record of designing coupe-convertibles. Even Pininfarina couldn't help. Look at the proportions of this - all wrong!

There is a good reason real convertibles (not hard top types) are rare—it has more to do with lack of rollover protection than popularity. There are some convertibles with rollover protection built in, but save for the windshield pillar, the Mustang doesn't have any.

As for retractable hard tops; I'm old enough to remember the Ford SkyLiner, and its ills. There were something like 7 motors, 4 lift jacks, 10 limit switches, 10 solenoids, ≈25 relays, and over a mile of extra wiring. They all worked together some of the time, but most of the time they didn't. Imagine having the top half way, and driving to the dealership down the freeway in rainy weather!!! Even the dealership's garage door wouldn't clear the top when half way! They have improved over the years, but even BMW recently saw the light and no longer offer one.

Oh! Did I mention they all leak sooner of later?
