By chance do they share the params or just their results. Wouldn’t idling at 1k (while enjoying the ac since the planet is getting warm) use less fuel than a 5k burst at 30 second intervals? While i concur ‘standing’ (idling for prolong periods) will use more fuel but the amount of ‘shutdown’ time as a result of alway start started shutting down the engine is negligible (read close to the same as strictly adhering to the speed limit) for the majority of instances.

Idle injector rate vs startup rate?
Google it, 👍

Annoying and stupid. One of the dumbest automotive "features" they have come up with.

It’s not a feature. It was necessary evil to help manufacturers meet EPA corporate gas mileage numbers. Do you really think Ford, or anyone else, really wanted too do this. On the other hand I have a 460HP monster that gets almost 30MPG due to those government regulations. So hard to complain about that either.

You really think it's saving you much gas?

A 5.0 V8 burns about 4 litres of fuel an hour when idling. So if you spend a lot of time in traffic queues then yes it can save you fuel, plus emissions in the locality. If you don't sit in traffic then it will never activate obviously, so will save nothing. It can be quite shocking when you look at the trip meter in the car that contains time driven as well as distance to see just how long you spend in the car, and if that is in queues then the time sat idling can be very significant.

My sons similarly powered 911 (992) manages 37mpg on a motorway trip - quite amazing improvements, all driven by mandates. It also has stop/start.

I've never understood the US hatred of stop/start. It is nothing like as hated elsewhere in the world, and good systems like the one fitted to Ford cars have zero impact on drivability, I know because I've had loads of them.

Isn't there a button to disable it on cars equipped with it, at your pleasure? You can also (for previous MY's) buy a harness to permanently disable it should you so wish, if your car has it.

Why does the engine shutting off make you uncomfortable? are you concerned it won't restart? It could just as easily die while driving, or when you go to start it normally. The ECU will wait until the engine sees oil pressure before firing the injectors, and the starter is beefed up to handle the additional duty cycle. Also the car is far more likely to be rendered undriveable with a botched software update with how things are going these days.

There's been advancements in the technology. It saving you maybe a dollar each fill-up, and the net fuel consumption savings across all mustangs (and cars in general) is beneficial for you and everyone else.

You think folks bought a 60k + gas guzzler (91 octane recommended) and paid the gas guzzler tax care about start/stop techno and saving a few bucks....i guess?! but that is funny stuff

Please tell me you are trolling?

So in the end they already did the math for us? Pay for ‘credits’ to offset the equivalent lost?

I will help with our hatred of AS/S.
Someone decided it for us. We don’t much like that. In fact, we will go to war over it.

Besides that, it can cost you almost 2 seconds in a sprint up to highway speeds. Example:
You must make left turn on to a 4 or 6 lane divided highway. We drive on the proper side of the road here, so for for IE, NI, GB, IoM, etc. consider it a right turn across a divided hwy.

there is a middle island you can make without fully crossing. You manage to cross the first side to the island, but one car is coming and you must stop completely. AS/S engages and shuts off the car, now you need to take off again but, the brake release, engine start delays you going to wide open throttle.

This actually happened to me in my Raptor. I ended up bypassing it once I upgraded the stereo as the start up would scram both of my amps.

can’t it be turned off anyway?
There are several ways to disable AS/S, but not having it to begin with is the best way! :)
