Is more fuel used during ‘startup’ or at idle?
Depends upon how long you idle, right? :)

Reminds me of the old thought pattern of "If you're leaving a room, but you're coming right back, leave the light on instead of turning it off, as it will use less electricity running than what it takes to turn it back on." That was proven to be wrong very quickly - I think it takes milliseconds worth of "running" electricity to turn it back on.

Annoying and stupid. One of the dumbest automotive "features" they have come up with.
Almost, the top prize for the dumbest government mandated feature was the seatbelt interlock of the early '70's, that wouldn't allow the car to start without buckling up first. The problem was that the electronics back then were so bad that half the time it wouldn't let you start the engine even though you had the belt buckled. It was so diasterious that members of congress complained so much that the mandate was removed a year or two later.

I can't stand AS/S and disable it (permanently) every chance I get. My 2019 F-150 (XLT Sport) has it (disabled) but thank goodness my 2024 Mustang (Dark Horse) doesn't.

It's not very effective out here in the summer and when it does work my reaction time to tip in the throttle is way faster than the starter which drives me crazy and why I kill it. It is by far the worst feature ever added to a vehicle because we are harassed into using it.

People who think S/S is great good for them. As for me If I wanted to save gas I would not have bought a performance car that will surely see some spirited driving. My P/P GT has no S/S and if it did it would be shut off before my seatbelt was fastened.😜
That is it!
I totally agree with you.

Honestly I doubt anyone would really notice a difference. ASS is not done for us. It’s done to help meet an overall corporate number for fuel economy. Do we really think a manufacturer would add this cost if there wasn’t a mandate todo so?
That makes sense.

I've never understood the US hatred of stop/start.
Maybe you haven’t noticed that on this side of the pond a lot of folks don’t like anything anymore. Make that “anything” government related and you get a response like @smurfslayer.

We don’t much like that. In fact, we will go to war over it.
Oh you silly Texans! :cwl:  :cwl:

I wonder if even the manual Dark Horse will come with the dreadful, unwanted auto start/stop system.
Does anyone know if it (will) affect only the auto trans?
Tks a lot
my performance pack is stick and has start/stop, and my 10 speed doesn't! only difference is trand and my stick has the 401 and my auto has 400a

That' doesn't really "disable" it like people are talking about. They want it turned OFF, period, no matter what you're doing, and without having to do something (e.g, press the AS/S button, change to another driving mode, etc.).
