The rear wheel lock lugs on my DH stand about 3/8” give or take proud of the other lugs. They seem tight and the car drives fine. But given that I’m a notorious over torquer I thought I’d ask before I started leaning on them. I don’t have a lot of faith in current PDI chimps.

It‘s a HP car if that makes any difference.

If you want to 100% sure remove one lug nut of each type (locking & regular). Not on the same wheel so you can avoid jacking and supporting the vehicle. Set them beside each other and the delta there should match the delta when installed. This assumes the overall conical seat height is the same on each which I expect they are. The angle/degree of the conical portion will be the same just need to verify the seat height is the same.

I put on after market wheel locks and the back ones stuck out if I remember right turns out the the thickness of the hubs on the rims front and rear are different on the DH with the HP rims. I put on black wheel locks on all the nuts so I never notice any more.

Thanks Paul.

I'm not so concerned about the looks, in fact i just noticed it. Just wanting to make sure it‘s like it should be.

Sadly, that is what they all look like on these cars.

Only that type, the one on my S550 (Ford original...) was almost identical to the other nuts (also in height), but flat at the top.

I guess we could always find taller lug nuts to make the locks look less stupid. 🤣

In reality I can't see it from the driver's seat anyhow, lol.

I don't know why they changed em (or why there's different versions around), the previous ones were perfect (see the picture). Maybe they found em not that secure (the treads were external, not with the inner part like this), however if someone want to steal your wheels, it's not a lug that will stop em. :)

PS: i don't have em on my S650.

Mine are “Ford original” too. Came on the car.

I don’t care what they look like personally. Just making sure they were good to go and weren’t gonna fly off.

Your good to go. Most of us ignore the line in the owners manual that says the torque on the lug nuts should be checked after the first 100 or 150 miles anyhow. (I don't remember the exact number) Doing so would ensure that you are good to go.

On my 24 GT PP w/Bronze package mine were chrome and looked like yours. One I hated the look of that locked lug and two I hated chrome on those gorgeous bronze wheels and three I hated the two piece design on the OEM lugs. So I went with one piece Gorilla Lugs in BLACK. My lock on that wheel is at about 6 o’clock near the pony’s tail.

Yes but those are a joke to unscrew (as said.. nor that a thief wouldn't find a way...), so at that point I wouldn't have used an anti-theft lug at all.

Ultimate all any lock does is keep and honest thieves honest. After 30+ years in the industry I have removed my share of wheel locks due to lost keys/removal tools. These hardened chrome ones are probably the biggest PIA to actually remove, but not impossible.

It's a matter of time, if they aimed already at your car, they will come prepared with the right tool. If it's just a bunch of desperados looking around they will come with a universal wrench, if there's a minimal grip outside it'll be a joke, but if they are inner treaded like the other ones (and hardened chrome as you said, outside) a wrench may be not enough, or at least they'll have to spend more time on it.

I went with 5 multi spline lugs from AM on my DH. And I still have factory lugs/locks if anyone interested.
