Hi all

I am looking for opinions to suggest a suitable resonator to help me clean up my sound and reduce decibels marginally.

On my manual transmission Mustang GT 24.5 I have upgraded my factory exhaust system to a 3 inch Corsa Xtreme Valved Exhaust System/Dual in/Four out CAT backed system with a Corsa double HH Pipe resonator delete.

There is no doubt you can hear the difference in sound levels. My goal was to increase the sound levels to get that old muscle car rumble and deeper note. Unfortunately it is a little too much, at cold starts it is the worst and just sounds like plain annoying noise. I will say I get no in cabin drone which is great and probably helped by the double HH pipe. After take off and warm idles the sound balances out a little more. I am not getting that nice tone with the increased sound I was hoping for. With my wife and family now noticing this and commenting, I need to make a change.

I would like suggestions on which resonators out there you could suggest that will help me clean up this excessive and annoying noise at cold starts, idle and a bit of sound reduction at full throttle? I don't mind losing some of the pops with the high to low rev/gear changes.

I was considering a high flow inline resonator and if anyone has purchased a resonator below from Lethal Performance that could be suggested:

have you tried the stock resonator? it is on the heavier side compared to an H pipe but flows well

thanks for your reply. do you mean stock resonator? If yes i have just taken that off to replace with the Double HH Pipe resonator delete. I am happy with that and know that is the set up for me. I know the sound needs a little tidying up so looking for any experience from others that installed something small like a bottle resonator, to not clean up the sound whilst not loosing allot of sound.

Cold starts sound so terrible, I don't know how so many people in the community got to the point of posting them and jerking off to them like it sounds good.

I agree with you 100%, the cold start makes me want to switch off and go back inside. I will have to find a solution to that now.

This worked wonders for me, quieter than stock now.
3”’for longtubes or 2.5” for normal cars.
I'd say 2.5 may be the quietest. But with a name like Max Flow I'd doubt it. Someone said the internally a baffled X-Pipe, if so they could be lightly raspy. A raspy car puts me in "Get off my lawn you kids!" mode.

The packing is what tones the volume and any rasp.
It’s the generic of magnaflow, you can buy theirs also… same exact material and welds ..4X the price for laser engraving

Nothing on YouTube featuring them. Must be quiet if the lovers of rasps and pops haven't put a video of them up yet. Most of them didn't like the Jones mufflers on the Fox Body bringing back that old muscle car sound. I think a lot must be due to the compression of the newer Coyote engine and the lower compression of the older engine. But the Fox Body sounded great. Nice and deep.

Funny, I actually have jones max flows on my foxbody also… quietest mufflers I could find…
331, dart block, Ti trim… 22lbs of
Boost…absolute animal

when I had flowmasters on it the drone was the worst, rattling all the windows inside me and my neighbors houses… we’re cool now and they know how hard I worked to quiet it down and not be a bad neighbor.

The Borla S-Type Catback come with what looks comparable in your link to Slip Fit / 3.00 in Packed Resonator | 2-3 dB, if that helps. The 3 inch ones. Need 2 between H pipe and mufflers. 1 in each run.

thanks for the suggestions, here is a sound clip of a cold start, noting the active exhaust normal option by default is on, this is the sound at its worst.

i know it can be hard to make a suggestion on this attachment and quality, from what you are hearing which bottle resonator dimension would you think is right to clean up and balance out the sound whilst quietening down a little?

I only have a single data point on a Borla setup. Maybe some others might be able to compare. I will say that link you had shows decibel differences between the different lengths of tubes. Might use an app on your phone and use various cloth covers over exhaust to measure decibel variations and see what you like.
