I guess it was inevitable that a thread dedicated to the infamous MT82 was started for S650 owners in Australia, so here it is.

I'm getting grinding from 2nd-3rd (no lockout yet!) at >6000rpm, it's only done 1,200km.

Is there actually a real fix for this? Some say it's the clutch, some say its the syncro's, some say its the fluid lines for the clutch, some say its the shifter or the trans fluid.

Does anyone know of a solution that definitely works?

I haven't had my POM inspection yet, but I'm guessing if I raise it Ford will just say "we inspected it and there's nothing wrong". Will still say something so its on record, but I'm not hopeful of a solution.

In the meantime, a Tremec 3160 is only a lazy $11k exc install from the Man Cave Garage :)

I have just under 4000kms now, I don't rate the MT82 D4 it would be better with the tremec, I was able to buzz the synchro's if I shifted quickly between 1st and 2nd gear. After reading a bunch of posts I realised I had to slow way down on the shift, I was also getting used to a manual after not driving manual for eight years, so there is that too, but forget trying to take anybody at the lights. I basically shift slowly and precisely all the time now.

They definitely don’t like to be shifted hard. In saying that I gave my 17 a real hard time after not having a manual since I got off my Ps. Sadly more GT car than sports car.

Kinda takes the fun out of it if that's the only way to stop it.

My old car was a Honda Accord Euro manual and it used to occasionally lock me out of 3rd even at low revs. It started early on and bugged me for years, Honda said syncro's were fine etc.. so after the warranty expired I decided to replace the trans fluid with something slightly thinner and it never happened again.

Makes me think the ppl saying it's the OEM fluid in the MT82 causing the issue might be onto something.

Agree 100% on a transmission fluid change this has been well documented on other forums as a fix for different model gearbox issues in the past, the only way to know if this is a solution is to find an article from someone who has changed the transmission fluid on a MT82 in a S550. But I wouldn't do it until the car is allot older, also my car is a leased vehicle so not really allowed to do it and potentially void the warranty, the car technically is not mine.

Ok thanks, good to know.

Guess I'll put up with it till the warranty runs out but will flag it with Ford in any case and wait for the "not this again" eye roll.

Mine is under finance and even if it wasn't I don't want to be doing anything that might void the warranty in case it actually blows up at some point.

The strange part of all this is that it hasn't (yet) happened when using the flat shift functionality, might just be co-incidence cause I can't see a link between the ECU cutting the spark and what's happening with the clutch and gearbox during a shift.
