Help a rather clueless gal out here:

S650 Mustang Help with new wheels on Carbonized Gray GT 2024mustang2

I'm really not fond of the wheels on my new GT. They're so... BRIGHT... against the rest of the car. I don't want black, but something much darker than what's on it now would make me much happier. Also, not looking to spend thousands here.

I was looking at these:

https://www.americanmuscle.com/amer...ng-amr-dark-stainless-wheel-19x85-102501.html

And saw that someone else had put them on an Iconic Silver, shown here:

https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/threads/19x8-5-amr-wheels-pics.159209/

I'm a bit worried that since the Carbonized Gray is darker than the Iconic Silver, that the dark stainless wheels won't look "darker enough" against the Carbonized Gray, if that makes sense.

Also seeing these:

https://www.americanmuscle.com/amer...e-pack-style-charcoal-wheel-19x85-101905.html

and I actually would have preferred that style of wheel from Ford when I bought the car, but it only came in 20", which I didn't want (felt too much vibration in the ride with the 20"). So maybe this is a nice opportunity to get that wheel style, BUT might they be too dark?

For either choice, I'm not excited about losing the pony emblems in the middle, but I guess there are no options to fix that issue, right?

These seem fairly inexpensive, which on the one hand is nice, but on the other, is that indicative of longevity issues?

Thoughts anyone? Also would love to see other recs should anyone have them, especially those that won't break the bank!

OH, one more thing: the wheels that I have are a month old, with about 2,500 miles on. Am I going to have any luck reselling these, or will they be taking up room in my garage forever? LOL Is it easier to sell as a set with tires or does it matter?

I have the same wheels on my Dark matter grey, they also show brake dust like crazy. I like the rim itself just not the brightness. I am checking into getting them powder coated the same color as the car.

I agree that the wheels you now have are too bright and take away from the richness of your color. I would choose something that has a gloss that goes with the gloss of your car. You need something in a shade alittle brighter than your color but only alittle. I'm with you on trying to not loose your pony center caps. Maybe look into a set of take off PP Ford rims that would nice. Less problems on the tpms sensors. There should be some for sale as many have changed their stock PP wheels.

Yeah, I did not want those wheels, though I opted for Nite Pony so it took care of that. Personally love black accents on my Carbonized Gray.

Those AMR's look great though they might be too bright almost chromy if you know what I mean.

Those Performance Pack Style one's look pretty dark for a good contrast.

As for resale of the OEM's, unless you need the money, keep em, with tires on. Never hurts to have backups IMO

Oh, that's an idea. I think I'd want them a bit lighter than the car, though. You're definitely right about the brake dust. My husband bought special cleaning brushes to take care of that!

The problem with that is I don't want to get into different sizes on front and rear, and aren't they all 20"? Remember, I'm rather clueless!

PP style pretty dark in a good way, or bad? I really wish I could see these in person before buying... it would be so much easier to make a decision!

And I really don't want to keep another set of rims and tires around. I had my other Mustang for 18 years, and never encountered a situation where that would have been a benefit. I did have an extra set of winter tires when I lived in Germany, but now I live in the South where it doesn't snow, so here we are!

Do you like the style of the wheels? You can probably get them powder coated to whatever color you like. Some shops will even unmount/remount the tires if you leave the car with them. I had them do some srt wheels a while back and they turned out awesome.

The style of the wheels is fine, so maybe powder coating is the best option. Probably cheapest, in any case.

Over by me, Chicago sub, it looks like it’s $250 to get all 4 wheels done if tires are off. Looks like $425 for all 4 if the wheels and tires are still on the car.

That’s a great price, I was quoted $640 to powdered coat 4 wheels with tires removed, additional $200 for them to remove the tires. Minneapolis, MN area burbs.

Cool, thanks! I'll make some calls around here tomorrow, and see how the prices compare. I know I won't be taking the wheels in without the car... just have no ability to do that!

The only thing that worries me is the TPMS... should I be concerned about that?

No, just give the powder coater the car, they can take sensors out and put them back in with no issues. This will for sure be your cheapest option and you get to keep the pony's 😁

I agree with recommendation of powder coating. If you like the wheels, just not the color, powder coating is your best and cheapest option. You’re unlikely to get much money selling your existing set, so buying new wheels and tires will likely end up costing you more than 2-3 times what it costs to powder coat.
