I need a quiet exhaust. Quieter than quiet mode.

S650 Ecoboosts have a bassy resonant drone ~1600RPM (best speed to hear it is by driving ~62MPH , or 43MPH too depending on what gear it chooses to be in).

Personally I don't mind, I like it (coming from a Camaro LT1 w/Chevy active exhaust that I could play like a musical instrument and make pops/bangs by downshifting >3K RPM). If you want a quieter Ecoboost, the S550 Ecoboosts are very quiet. S650 Ecoboosts had some exhaust system "upgrades" to be more like a performance exhaust and make more noise

Want the ultimate in quiet? Mach E. But once you get rid of the sound of the GT exhaust you'll have fun with all Shejes, Rattles, and Rolls. You'll ain't done nothing to save your dog gone soul. Come on, you know the song. Shake, rattle and roll. 🎹🎷🎺🎸🥁

If you have Forscan change this adress:
727-01-01 xxxx xxxx 0x--.

Change the number you have to 0, as shown on the adress and you will disable the fake engine sound that your car is making through the speakers. This will help you a bit.

That's right, I drove an Ecoboost convertible for 4,000 miles on a road trip and from the inside it sounded V6/8ish, and when stepping out I thought I accidentally rented a Malibu.
So I'd first have someone to change above mentioned value in Forscan before doing anything else.

I feel for you @Dale_K. About 20 years ago, I was sitting in my office one day and suddenly lost half my hearing in one ear, and what remained was so sensitive that I wore an earplug every day for over a year until the sensitivity eventually faded. I hope you can find a solution to your car!

BTW, add me to the list of guys who want a quieter Mustang! I know most guys love Mustangs to be loud, but I hate it.

I don't use the radio, so maybe I can disable the amp. I had the Focus ST and disconnected the sound tube. The sound that drives my ear crazy sure seems to be coming from the rear of the car.
Actually, the same issue happened with a Miata - I had to trade it in on a Chrysler 200 convertible. The Chrysler worked out great for me for 12 years and 127k miles. Just a regular car with a top that goes down. I sold it to a neighbor and there's a chance I could buy it back.

Starting at Owners Manual, printed page 293, is the inside, Body Control Module fuse listing. #4 and #25 are both marked, "amplifier". It might be as simple as removing one or both of those.

Alternatively, if there is a bass driver in the trunk area, accessing and disconnecting the inputs there.

I have a messed-up ear from riding motorcycles. Any deep-toned sound really aggravates my ear to where I can't stand it anymore. My new 2024 EcoBoost convertible seemed fine at first but after using it more during the nice weather it's reached a point where I have to wear an earplug in the bad ear, even when the active exhaust is in its quietest mode. I need an exhaust like a regular car - something you can't even really hear at all. The sound is worst at low rpm under a little power - like going up a gentle hill at 35 mph.

Is the base exhaust quiet? Is it quieter than the active exhaust in the quiet mode? I'm willing to spend a lot of money to get this car usable, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I have checked the exhaust tips and the active exhaust valves are working and fully closed in quiet mode.
Maybe sell this car and buy a Mustang Mach-E?

Thanks for the info on the amp. I just ordered refurbished airpods with noise cancellation from Best Buy and I hope they help a little. Supposed to get them Saturday.

I have an EB Vert as well and am willing to bet the issue is the engine noise thats simulated over the speakers.

At approx. 1500 rpm its very bassy/boomy. If you have FORSCAN check for something called ESE and disable it in the ACM module.

I tried it just to see, and it ended up being too quiet so I turned it back on. Was really surprised that even on Track mode without the ESE, it was hard to tell the difference when the active exhaust was opened or closed.

@Dale_K ..... for any type of active exhaust to function there must be clearance around the port that opens and closes to prevent binding particularly as the parts heat-up. Noise gets past this opening. So any type of aftermarket valved exhaust will be louder than a non-valved one. I would remove the entire oem valved exhaust system , including the resonator and install the non active version from the cats back ..... that is the non valved factory resonator, all pipes and non valved mufflers. That will be as quiet as it gets using oem parts. Good luck!

So there are already 4-5 people hinting to the official Ford feature "Electronic Sound Enhancement" which is implemented to make the engine and exhaust sound much louder and boomier inside the car. Through ALL speakers, so exhaust note might be coming more from the rear, while engine sounds come from the front.

Turning it on or off is no illegal Russia hack, but a normal set parameter in the car software.

Every Ford dealer has access to that setting as described above.

Especially when you tell them it's an health issue they should be very quick to turn it off for you at no cost because otherwise they could face consequences like bad publicity for "harming sounds" or getting trouble when you decide to return the vehicle.

I don't have the software to do this myself, so the suggestion that the dealer might do this is good to hear. I think what I'm going to do is pull the fuse for the amp and see what happens and go from there.
