my guess some idiot bought it for their kids and traded it back in on a Ford Escape after their kid smacked a curb with his mad drifting skills … exhaust looks like it was done in high school auto class

You might mention the serious consequences of the Federal and State EPA finding out this dealership was knowingly selling non EPA compliant cars. Which is a violation of section 203 of the Clean Air Act and 40 C.F.R. 1068.101.

"Section 203(a)(3)(B) of the Clean Air Act makes it a violation for any person to manufacture or sell, or offer to sell, or install, any part or component (i.e., “defeat device”) intended for use with, or as part of, any motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine, where a principal effect of the part or component is to bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine in compliance with regulations under Title II of the Clean Air Act, and where the person knows or should know that such part or component is being offered for sale or installed for such use or put to such use.

Also, section 203(a)(3)(A) of the Clean Air Act prohibits any person from knowingly removing or
rendering inoperative (i.e., “tampering”) any such emissions control device or element of design.
EPA regulations establish the same prohibitions."

Such violations are punishable by "a maximum civil penalty of $4,819 per defeat device manufactured, sold, or installed, or per vehicle tampered."

The bottom line is the car is ILLEGAL FOR SALE IN THE USA in it's current state. Whether they took it on trade or bought it; it's THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to put it back into Federal and/or State EPA compliance PRIOR TO selling it.

Because that’s exactly what we need, to hypocritically try to use a law that a large portion of the hot rodding public completely ignores and very few people on earth actually have authority to enforce.

Even if the dealer returned it to stock, there could be down the road warranty concerns, if that’s a concern. It doesn’t matter to Ford who did the deed, but if the deed was done and a related component fails, they’ll point to this and say ‘not covered, parts affected by previous modifications’. Not likely for just an exhaust, but who knows what else P/O did.

No matter what you get off the asking price of this butcher job that was and done to make noise loud enough to melt glass probably indicates a yahoo owner who beat the $hit out of it. Who else would do that.

Tell them to put it back to stock with the active exhaust working properly, and you may be interested

It's not just cars. I owned 2012 and 2018 Can Am Spyder trikes a few years back. Modding them was just as popular as modding Mustangs.

One of the most popular mods was ............................you guessed it! Exhaust systems! There was one called "The Annihilator" that when one of our forum members made an inquiry with the manufacturer/vendor; was told it would wake the dead"!

Gotta respect they were very upfront about their product! Another system that npiqued my (academic) interest as the tip was modeled on a 6 barreled minigun! Pretty sure that one didn't meet noise standards either!

Was prepared to buy a 2024 White GT Premium, with PP, Magneride (they lied it didn't have magneride), active exhaust, 401a, with the red interior and nite pony package.

Got there, and it looked great. Started it up and it was INSANELY loud! It had active exhaust so I put it in quiet mode, and it didn't change a thing.

Had them put the car on the lift, and saw the previous owner replaced the resonator with two straight pipes, and deleted the mufflers. It was so loud I couldn't even hear my passenger.

Anyone have experience with this, curious how would this setup compare to a full cat back?

edit: Dealer tried to say it was normal.
