Unpopular take… this has taken too long and been too drug out… the car looks old already.

they should work on getting debuts closer in time to real world rollouts.

they probably have years left for this run and im tryna see what’s next.

I'm still confused as to why they went supercharger over turbocharger. Granted they already had the power unit from the GT500 so it would save on cost but being their halo-car at over $300k, I doubt cost was even a concern.

Could've had less weight, less heat, more power, boost by gear, etc. There's a reason practically no one uses superchargers on road course cars anymore.

It was always a given that this car would go sub 7. Never a question.

what we wanted to know was by how much?

if it beats the gt3, fine. That’s what it was benchmarked for.

but with the gt2 time out there, the AMG One having beaten its own record, and still no GTD time, there is an air of forthcoming disappointment.

indo wonder if Ford did enough. A regular gt500 setup? Really? No turbos? Just suspension and body kit and it’s another 200,000 plus on top of a crypt gt500 price?

inthink the car still looks rad. Like a futuristic dragon on wheels.

but if it isn’t something extremely rare and special on the track, people will question its very existence.

why have a 300+ k Mustang if it just gets best by the competition?

and will it be out in time to claim the first American production car to go sub 7? Or will the ZL1 steal its thunder again?

it just doesn’t seem like ford did enough. It’s a s if they thought ā€œhey. The Camaro is dead, the dodge cars have gone soy, and weā€˜vr seen what the Vette can do. Let’s hype a better Mustang, notch an attainable performance metric, and sell this thing for 250,000 in profit Per model.ā€œ

hype ensues.

a short while later, the ZR1 is revealed.

Ford: *crickets*

hoping it’s a sleeper campaign followed by amazing news, but not holding my breath.

My guess is durability. The 5.2 has been around for some time now, and is a proven design. If you're building a car like this, you want something that you can go on the track, and just thrash constantly without worrying about having issues.

I believe it was a MotorTrend interview where Ford's CEO said a turbocharged V6 Ecoboost motor was considered at one point because it would be lighter, but they thought a V8 suited the muscle car vibe better.

It might look passƩ, but form always follows function. All it needs is a win or two, and all of the criticism will be gone.

Dude, the car was only revealed like a little over a year ago. A year between reveal and release is well below what we see with a lot of reveals.

I still don’t get all the negativity in regards to the GTD. It should be celebrated not berated. But all I read is should have been this, it should have been that. Why didn’t they do this, or that.

And if it doesn’t beat the GT2, or even the ZL1, the world will not end. It will still be a world class car and a Mustang at that. Let those who are plucking down their $300k+ decide whether or not to cancel their orders over this. I doubt any will.

Ford is certainly capable of making a durable turbo V8. Plenty of automakers achieve this. Sure it would've been uncharted territory for them but a turbo platform would've made the cooling load more manageable.

Look at Steve Luca's turbo GT500 time attack build. 1,000 hp and runs lap after lap.

I suppose my comments put me in that category.
I love the GTD and can't wait to see Ben Sloss rip his around Laguna Seca....BUT if Ford had a blank check to make the coolest Mustang ever, I'm rather surprised at some of the decisions they made. Namely: turbos are objectively superior to superchargers for a road course car. Perhaps Ford wanted to keep the "muscle car" theme as much as they could and still achieve their performance goals.

I'm not worried about the new ZR1. That thing doesn't make nearly enough downforce. The GT3RS is a perfect example that aero trumps horsepower around a track.

gross.

V8 ecoboost far superior.

ford has the tech down pat to make the best TT v8 in the world.

the Gtd wa s the pete t case to develop a v8 version of the ecoboost. Unbelievable they missed it. At the very least they could have hybridized via non-plugin e boost. But instead we got a 300+k gt500 track pack.
