Just returned from the Mustang Unleashed course at the Ford Performance Racing School (at Charlotte Motor Speedway) and thought I'd share this 8-minute video summary and a few pics of my experience (that's me in the #27), to give prospective attendees an idea of what to expect if you select the road course option. The YouTube video includes in-car footage from all the driving events. The Dark Horse Mustangs are configured with Road Keeper dual-cam in-car video systems, and I included some of my lap footage in my video. But the Ecoboost and GT cars for the morning events are not equipped with dash cams, so I mounted a phone camera to the windshield for those events and have included some of that footage in my video as well.

The course was worth the trip. The instructors and staff are top-notch. Learned a few things about my 2024 GT, enjoyed mingling with fellow Mustang owners, and had a great time. Of course, driving the Dark Horse on the (modified) Roval was the highlight of the day, and the instructor's demo lap was intense (it's included in my video). If you get an opportunity to attend, do it. You won't regret it.

Awesome experience! Thanks for sharing your video. I was curious if you use your own Mustang at any time, or it is all provided vehicles?

FPRS provides all the cars. Students are not allowed to use their own Mustangs for any part of the course.

As an aside... You're liable for any damage you inflict on the cars up to their full value (although serious damage seems very unlikely, given how well-structured everything is). But if you're concerned about totaling a Dark Horse on the track, you may "buy down" the liability to only the first $6500 by paying a $125 insurance premium in advance of the course.

Hey! I was in there with you. What a great experience that was. I can’t wait to get on track again.
The best part to me was doing a lap with the instructors just to show how much harder you can push the cars.

We were there too, on Saturday. Had a blast. I think the AutoX was my favorite, I'd never done it before. My wife also liked it best. It really was worth the trip.

5L Pony,
That was a great video. I live in the Northeast and I wasn't going o take advantage of this offer because there aren't many options near to me. However, after watching your video I think I have to reconsider. Glenn

Thanks Glenn. I live about 8 hours away and was going to go by car, but managed to catch a last-minute cheap flight out of Orlando that made the flying option cost-effective. Keep in mind that, aside from the FPRS, there are plenty of other gearhead-oriented attractions in the Charlotte-Concord area to make the trip worthwhile. I visited the Mustang Owners Museum and Hendrick Motorsports Museum while there (just minutes from CMS), and there are some others I didn't get to, plus the NASCAR Hall of Fame right there at CMS. Also, you might be able to catch some dirt track racing at Millbridge Speedway (about a half hour from CMS). If you're into cars, Charlotte-Concord is worth the trip.

Thanks for the info. It seemed the G_ds were conspiring to pick places I know nothing about. At least I now know I can spend a few days there and have plenty to do. Glenn

I concur with 5L, we ran the experience back in August, were there for 3 days with plenty to see and do in the area. We had a perfect long weekend to drive our mustang down from Ohio, enjoyed our convertible and then an awesome FPRS DH. The FPRS instructors, staff, and program were great. We were both able to participate fully, so if you take a guest, that's an option. Here's a thread with other's experiences and pics:

When I bought my performance pack it said that we as well as Dark horse owners will get this at no cost. I still haven’t received my invitation. It’s been 8 months since I ordered and purchased my vehicle.

I went at the end of August and couldn’t agree with you more. It was a fantastic time. The Autocross in the Ecoboost PP cars really showed me just how much harder I can push mine than I thought was even possible. The track time was good but I could have gone faster than they let us (I had run a bunch laps in the Mustang GTD on iRacing before going).

the Automatic Braking exercise in the GTs was very unnerving to me (I’m an autonomy software engineer, I know WAYYYY too much about how that stuff works/fails!!!).

The emergency lane change exercise was fun and I absolutely nailed it! They actually asked me to slow down because I was flooring it to where I was doing about 45 before hitting the swerve.

the ride along was awesome! Definitely showed just how much deeper and harder you could go. The first 2 turns I kept thinking “ok you can start braking any time now!!!” But after that got comfortable with what he was doing.

best part to me was driving flat out through NASCAR 1/2, then stomping on the brakes on the back straight to go from 115mph down to 30 to make the hairpin, feeling the car get “skatey” under you but still in control. Really showed just how amazing the ABS on these cars is!

Thank you. It says I have a year from purchase and every date is expired or sold out.
