RTR = RICER ... but honestly, where are the RTR parts other than the grille? All I see is a wrapped GT bumper/spoiler and an RTR grille.

This forum has become a place for non s650 owners to complain.

I guess they don't want any performance options available for this engine, I don't know...
You cant honestly tell me you think this car looks good?

I think if they showed pictures in atlas blue or grabber blue....or race red....I think the reaction would have been much different.....

I don't understand the response to this.

A lot of people thought that the EB Performance Pack for the S650 wasn't enough, as it was effectively wider tires and Brembo brakes on the Ecoboost without any of the bonus styling (no NPP, no BAP).

Ford then removes the EBPP entirely. Everyone, understandably, gets upset due to the removal of what made the EB a fun car to drive. Turns out, as I had hypothesized on multiple occasions, they had removed the EBPP for this - which is borrowing parts from the Dark Horse and, reportedly, is likely going to massage the 2.3 to produce more power

Agreed, missed badly on the reveal. Stock ride height, basic wheels, horrible wrap, and an RTR grill, no thanks. Lowered, RTR wheels, special Darkhorse/RTR logos, now that would be something to get excited about.

This is a release stating you can get an rtr mustang from the factory. The wrap has nothing to do with it and isn't for sale. It's a one off wrap. This whole article is about rtr is releasing a performance oriented Ecoboost for those interested.

Things I notice:
- standard Mustang GT front bumper
- standard Performance Pack front lip
- pedestal spoiler
- 18" wheels (which don't look that special, looks like they were ordered as part of a package from DiscountTire)
- RTR grille

I have my doubts about this model because the Ecoboost is pretty neutered from a performance perspective (other than straight-line acceleration). The press release brags about drifting etc., but you can't actually do stuff like that in an Ecoboost, because the ESC cuts throttle after a 180-degree swing, so even basic clean donuts are impossible. I made a separate thread here on the car being neutered by ESC. And at least for non-Performance Pack models, you can't even shift the gears, or even see what gear you're in (unless you use aftermarket/non-OEM software like FORScan to enable gear display). Even when you are able to shift gears, the 10R80, at least in the Ecoboost, is slow and laggy to respond. This has been mentioned both by people put a GT wheel in their S650 Ecoboost (and thus gained gear control) and auto journalists.

I hate to sound like a hater, I own an S650 Ecoboost and want the car to be great, but it simply is not a serious performance machine, or even a donut/hooligan/takeover machine. It's less mischevious than S550 Ecoboosts, and this is likely due to Ford wanting to cover their butt and minimize lawsuits and risk etc. but IMO not as fun as a Mustang should be.

Ford Mustang RTR Previews New High-Performance Choice for EcoBoost Fans
  • First-Ever Mustang RTR expands the Mustang performance portfolio, combining Mustang Dark Horse hardware, RTR styling, and lessons learned from multiple Formula Drift Championships to create the most exciting Mustang EcoBoost ever
  • The partnership with RTR Vehicles is only the second time in Mustang history that a high-performance model has been co-created with an outside partner and offered from the factory
  • Mustang RTR preview features a one-off body wrap inspired by naval camouflage and designed by RTR
DETROIT, Jan. 9, 2025 – Ford today previewed the second new Mustang performance model in two years ahead of the 2025 Detroit Auto Show with a dynamic demonstration of the new Mustang RTR. Driven by Mustang Icon, two-time drift champion, and RTR Vehicles President and Founder, Vaughn Gittin, Jr., the new Mustang RTR is the most exciting enthusiast focused turbocharged Mustang ever.

Drawing on the RTR team’s experience winning multiple Formula Drift championships and sharing performance parts with Mustang Dark Horse – and on the 18-year partnership between Vaughn Gittin Jr., and Ford – Mustang RTR gives customers another thrilling option alongside Mustang GT Performance Package, Mustang Dark Horse, and Mustang GTD. It brings new style and dynamic driving capabilities to Mustang EcoBoost, as hinted at by the demonstration car’s Hyper Lime Brembo brake calipers and pedestal spoiler.

Mustang RTR also represents only the second time in Mustang’s history that Ford has sold a performance model co-created with an outside partner and offered from the factory.

“From Mustang GTD to Mustang Dark Horse to the new Mustang RTR, there’s a high-performance pony for every Mustang fan and customer,” said Jim Baumbick, vice president, Ford Product Development. “The RTR team has so much passion and experience on and off the track that we’ve partnered to develop the most exciting, enthusiast focused EcoBoost Mustang ever.”

In addition to the various motorsport projects and demonstrator vehicles Ford and RTR have collaborated on, RTR previously helped develop Mustang’s class-exclusive available drift brake on current seventh-generation Mustang Performance Packages, which brings even more track-based performance to Mustang with options for every level of driver who wants to smoke some tires and practice their reverse entry cornering on the racetrack.

The production electronic drift brake fuses the rear-wheel-drive drifting capability of Mustang with the visual appeal and functionality of a traditional, mechanical hand brake.

“I'm pumped to have the opportunity to create what we believe is the most exciting turbocharged Mustang ever,” said RTR President and Founder Vaughn Gittin, Jr. "This Mustang RTR is pure accessible fun, with many enhancements, including Mustang Dark Horse components, Mustang EcoBoost’s near-perfect weight distribution, and RTR’s signature styling, it’s ready for drifting, drag racing, back-road cruising, or ripping around an autocross track. The new Mustang RTR is truly Ready to Rock.”

Mustang RTR also opens up the performance aperture to more customers, especially first-time track enthusiasts.

“If it involves driving fast or having fun, Ford is giving Mustang customers the tools to do it,” said Mustang Brand Manager Joe Bellino. “From Drift Brake to Line Lock to Mustang Unleashed and the new features coming to Mustang RTR, Ford won’t stop innovating with Mustang.”

Mustang RTR will remain on display at the 2025 Detroit Auto Show alongside Mustang GTD Spirit of America, which also made its global debut in the Motor City.
