Scheduled for delivery on October 25th. My delivery date was fast approaching. (The car was originally ordered through Military Auto Sales in April 2023!)

The car showed a "Congratulations! Your 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Fastback was born" message on September 24th. Strangely, my Dark Horse never showed as "in transit". I contacted Military Auto Sales today to inquire about it. They had no answer but said they would reach out to Ford.

A few minutes go by and I get an email stating the car has not shipped yet, but the "good news" was it's out of "quality hold" and will be delivered sometime in November! WTF?!

As well as being pissed off how long this has taken, now I'm worried something was wrong with the car.

I did some research and "quality hold" can mean anything from, awaiting parts to complete, failed a quality check or damaged being repaired.

This has not been an enjoyable event.

I've always taken the term "quality hold" to mean that, yes.

IDK how often it happens, but it does. Whatever did occur, it happened at the best possible place: the factory. No one will ever know what it was. When the car is received, no one will notice anything is amiss. There will be no tells or documents which follow it.

My 2017 Raptor was delivered to the dealer with ~120 miles on the clock. Seeing this, the sales manager was beside himself, heā€™d just shot me text message pictures of it being rolled off the truck. He calls me in a panic ā€œIā€™ve got some bad news, the truck has like 120 miles on it ! ! ! Ford left a Punch list of stuff that they held the truck back to test. I got some revised computer programming, and some bits and bobs updated. Nothing major that I could tell from the list.
Anyway, I asked the sales manager. ā€œ ... is that it? no damage or anything, rightā€ He offered they were doing PDI on it currently and heā€™d update me.

Before letting him off the phone I told him ā€œThe truck has a full warranty, which is now 120 miles longer than it was before so ... not really a big deal - thanks for letting me know, very much appreciated and I didnā€™t think there was anything going on. Iā€™ll be there tomorrow!"

They could be doing some q/a testing on it like on my Raptor, or there could be something suspected.

This has not been an enjoyable event.
No, but in the big scheme of things, youā€™ll get the car, just later than expected. When get in and fire it up, the previous ā€™not enjoyableā€™ event will melt away. That and the first time a generous application of throttle shoves you back in the seat.

It will be worth it.

Just received an email. Delivery date is now estimated between November 29th and December 14th.

I'd bet I'm gonna have the last 2024 Dark Horse delivered. Makes for a good car story.

Mine was on a quality hold after it was built. It was for parts and recalls though. They just had to make sure that the new parts had been installed instead of previous ones that had a recall. So it may not have been anything serious, just a quick check to make sure everything was done correctly.

I felt like mine was one of the last of the 2024's that was built with the SN of R8957. I only took delivery of it a little over a week ago at this point. The unofficial registry is already at R9042 so there is probably at least 100 built after mine was built in October.

I think there is a high probability we both will have some of the last DH produced for 2024.
