How about believing that Ford had no interest in a Shelby Dark Horse?
ford has an interest in selling mustangs.

a dark horse sold to Shelby is more money per unti in ford’s pockets.

it’s Shelby thst didn’t see the need to go with a dark horse starter.
Makes a lot of sense. No need to pay more for a car that when you’re just going to swap out the suspension anyway. The dark horse engine isn’t any different than the GT engine after you replace the intake for a supercharger, exhaust, and tuning. The only possible benefit is cooling. And that’s only IF Shelby did not upgrade the cooking on the 350.

So starting with a dark horse base would be a ridiculous waste of money.

Except maybe, just maybe, the Tremec. The only way to get a Tremec is with the DH. Could be why Shelby has stuck with the MT82.

buecause it’s true.
Hmmm. Looking at the list of "upgrades" from the GT to the Shelby GT350 I don't see 500+ hp for the NA GT350, better magneride suspension, a better manual transmission, or better cooling for the engine, transmission, and differential.

I was referring to the SC version. Really the only reason to get a 350. The NA version is a waste of money. The manual transmission will ensure performance is not maximized. But the automatic evens it out. However, it would be interesting to see how the NA stacks against the dark horse on the track, especially the auto version of each. Lighter car, perhaps better suspension, it will be revealing.

Ironically they had a dark horse over there from what my friend saw visiting. In Larry Chen’s video, it’s in the back of the shop but obviously nothing came of it.

‘idk. It looks like a regular GT to me. About 90-95% regular GT. And that’s ok. But not “oh my gosh!”
I like simple, clean designs...and the integrated ducktail, to me anyway, is just PERFECTION. The hood, as subtle as a difference it is, also makes a huge impact. Add wheels with a proper offset and a lowered suspension and you get a killer stance on the best looking S650, IMHO. The grille is the only part I'm not crazy about...but everything else, I'm 100% digging!

Bro every time I see your name, I need to laugh because Katastrophe means catastrophy in German ( I think I once already mentioned that) and it fits well with this thread topic haha

track only cars don’t count. And the anniversary and special cars are nothing.

the only consequential cars are the GT, dark horse, and ecoboost.
‘’the GTD is unobtainable. The Shelby and rtr are tuner cars

there have always been crazy amounts of tuner cars. Saleen, rtr, Shelby, Hennessy, etc.

even so, the factory ford offerings are a tad weird with the ecoboost rtr. Kind of like throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks.
I know that track cars do not count and that special editions are something else, but still too much revolving around the Mustang in 2 years. Some may find it great, but I would love to have "more" in the GT and DH rather than bringing out special editions or heritage models in the line up

Too many here are trying to come up with elaborate reasons for things.

Occams razor explains this well (the simplest solution is often the best). Shelby cheaped out and knew they could still sell a bunch of these with just buying off the shelf GT’s and upgrading them.

they could have called tremec and had tr6060’s delivered but they didn’t.

This ....

I am what should be Shelbys target market ...

I've owned
66 GT350
67 GT500
07 GT500
19 GT350R

The original cars exceeded the performance of anything Ford built

The newer versions do not

This is where my issue lies.

They made a worse GT350 at a higher price is the issue

These are things I've been scratching my head over since I had seriously looked at Shelby and Roush offerings when I had my S197 a decade ago. Not one tuner company had a car complete with a Magnum-XL transmission upgrade, at a time when the MT82 was a steaming pile of garbage. Or maybe wet trash. Whatever is worse.

They are just body kit manufacturers now. Which, yes, I really like the way they look...but they seriously need some young hot-rodders with some PASSION to get in there and make some bold moves, IMHO.

absolutely.

they could have bought body in white s650 chassis only, worked with FRPP to deliver 5.2 aluminators making 550hp, a tremec TR6060 transaxle, light weight Steeda style k members, work with Apex to get some actual light weight wheels done, a supplier for some real lightweight seats, a glass company for light weight glass, Akrapovic could have built them a factory titanium exhaust for a guaranteed 500 unit run or something. It’s just laziness and we should not come up with excuses for doing what they did. Instead as enthusiasts we need to demand better and call out the bad behavior.
