Man, this thread has me flip-flopping between whether to go automatic or manual for my next vehicle...😖

If Auto Rev Matching is what gets me excited to learn manual before going all the way without any training nannies...consider me an auto enthusiast who just might consider converting into a #savethemanuals savant.

honestly between the two the 10r80 is a good transmission. Yes its had its teething problems but its solid. I've been trying to learn how to drive with the rev match on and the no lift shifts been driving manuals for years so I'm fighting against muscle memory. Its been getting easier to do and been easier to get the acceleration between gears quicker. I wasn't a fan at first but its definitely nice.

While I do think it's sweet that the rev-matching exists, I disabled mine. The reason is that I want to be able to control every aspect of the car's driving experience myself, hence the name "manual". I also want to learn all the gear shift points myself, and the only way to do that is to first experience the clunks and bumps, so you would adjust. I have been driving manual for a while, and while I don't do anything crazy, I do love double-clutching, occasional engine braking when getting off the highway, and of course down-shifting when I need to pass somebody, or to slow down.

So that's what I think. I also think it's great that hill assist exists, and I wish I could disable mine as well. I heard in some countries in order to pass your driving test on a manual, you need to be able to get going without rolling back on a hill.

Overall, I am very impressed with the 6-speed transmission on my base model GT. The 6-gear box really makes sense. I basically avoid the 5th gear, unless I'm driving about 45 mph--I go from 4th straight to the 6th.

The gear ratio is exactly like my old '07, except that the 5th gear is slower than what I had and 6th is faster. The gear shifter feels very solid, and almost feels like it "clicks" into the gear. No wobble, no iffyness. What I don't particularly like is the reverse gear. Every once in a while when parking in the city I wind up being in reverse instead of 1st and vice versa. Some kind of a pushing mechanism would have been better, I don't know.

One more thing that I don't particularly like about the new mustang is this idiotic power parking brake. It doesn't always engage, and I need to double-check that it's on all the time. I have no idea what the reason is, but sometimes it just blinks and doesn't turn on. What an absolutely useless thing nobody asked for. However... if you have the "brake hold" feature enabled, the parking brake engages automatically when you park--no need to do anything else.

Driving a manual is like learning to ride a bike, it doesn't take a lot of time to get use to. My daughter was 16 when she learned. She is now 54 and every new vehicle a standard. It is actually fun. It was on this forum someone said car thieves will pass by a standard, it made me chuckle.

What about changing gear without releasing the accelerator pedal? Does it auto rev match?
You CAN do no lift shift at WOT for upshifting, works great when winding out gears. Don't think I'd want to try downshifting or any other shifting with foot on accelerator.
