I have read quite a few reports that complain about the MT86, that is precisely why I wanted input from this group on the feasibility of the Tremec transplant. My fingers are still crossed that it will be better in the S650 than it was in the previous models.
There is the other side. My car has an early T45 transmission. I didn't know till recently that the transmission had a wear problems on the 3-4 gear fork. Ford corrected the problem however I am pretty sure my transmission doesn't have the fix. It has gone over 170,000 miles without an issue. I suspect the problem is the result of people racing and Jamming the transmission into gear. If you're easy on a car, you may never have the problems that other people are having. Then again, Ford may have resolved the problem and you still will not have an issue.

I'm sure for my usage it will be fine. My days of foot to floor power shifts are pretty much over, also not what convertibles are for, imho.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think that Ford would use the same transmission in a V8 Mustang as they use in a 4 cylinder Bronco. The Mustang transmission is an MT86 and this transmission is an MT88 Or so it states in the link.

They use the same speed automatic in both of those...

Also it's MT82

Lastly, you'd be best off just putting 4.09 gears in the rear end instead of swapping the whole transmission

I said the 6 speed manual in the Mustang was an MT86 not MT88.

The article in the above link says; "Getrag builds the all new 7-speed (for the Bronco), which Ford calls the MT88."

Puting 4.08 gears in the rear won't tighten up the ratios between gears and move of the 1:1 ration on 4th to 5th gear as in the Tremec which for me is half of the swap equation

Where are you getting MT86 from?

Standard on all 2025 Mustang® GT coupes, the MT82-D4 6-speed manual transmission comes with rev-matching for smooth shifting.

It's also 4.09 not 4.08

There's a couple threads on 4.09's on Mustang6G, it's a good fix for the D4 gearset...you don't want to shift 4 times to get to your 1:1 gear anyway, especially once you add some power

I have on order a Mustang GT Prem Vert, 6sp (scheduled for 9/25) and I'm a little concerned with what I've been reading about the MT86 transmission glitch(es). Has anyone ever performed or heard of a Tremec transplant replacement for the MT86? I don't imagine it would be impossible since the DH will come with one, but I guess having it's software communicate with the rest of the software on the GT might be a stumbling point. Also having the closer ratios of the Tremec might be nice in the heavier convertible. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this?
Just order a Dark Horse it will be the same price once all is said and done.

It doesn't seem like the Dark Horse is any faster with the Tremec though. It seems like a lot of trouble for not a lot of gain looking at the times Car & Driver got for both cars.

I think there are kits for the t56/6060 magnum XL into an s550, would probably be a lot cheaper.
