Whipple first, or headers first?

Im seeing several people posting about how completely stock Dark horse with a whipple is making huge out of the box power.

Im curious if I should do headers and some other mods in the meantime, or just keep saving up for the Whipple kit.

Goal is 850whp in the future

Any insight would help me choose the path

I’d use that money towards wheels, drivetrain, axles, and suspension so you can actually put the power down. 850 means nothing if your car spins out as soon as you hit the throttle. The whipple kits themselves already make 800+ crank horsepower. Headers will give you more, but the cost for them vs other mods is much higher

I should note that I do have wheels and tires (Velgen VF5s 305/30/19F & 325/30/10R Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires) already on my car as the Trofeos barely made it 26 laps at G2 Motorsports

what other suspension mods would you suggest for a HP Dark Horse?

You're going to want drag radials if you get a Whipple unless you only want to be able to floor it on the highway

Stop the hop kit or equivalent BMR stuff. HP dark horse id imagine the rest of suspension is pretty good stock, but if you’re worried about longevity, the axles could be upgraded as that much power on the stock ones will cause them to give in. That’s pretty much it really, if you feel like you need headers after that then by all means go ahead. I just know from past experience that headers were not worth it for me as it made my driving experience worse with noise as well as smog testing in the future.

I did headers 1st, then whipple, and I highly recommend going free flow.

and don’t listen to the wheel tire BS, the new traction control strategy is fantastic and works amazing.
Yes OFC you’ll eventually want a stickier compound but stock stage 2 pulley is quite manageable with Nannies.

I also did steeda cradle bushings and locating dowels to cut out wheel hop and tie the rear end in.

I agree with @Q6543 , traction control works really well with the Whipple. Stop the hop first so it can do it's job while the rear end isn't bouncing like a pogo stick.

Run side by side with a car with a drag radial that has the the TC turned off, and see what you're missing.
I know, but it's still a good time and is not the bringer of mustang mishaps it used to be.

exactly, if you're tracking it or racing it, traction control is turned off usually (through track mode or just manually turned off by user). the tires will spin out of control with that much power. OP mentioned track, so assumption is track mode is on and TC is off

He mentioned laps. Drag radials aren't lapping tires :)

Hey there!
I'm not sure either path is the "wrong" one. They both can be in play on their own. I typically do recommend people to do the supporting mods first - i.e suspension (even if just cradle lockouts/springs), wheels and/or tires, etc. It also gives you more of a feel of the progression the car has gone.
Let us know if we can help you out. We love our Whippled S650s and absolutely would recommend one, but it's certainly not a bad idea to look into supporting the car prior to Whippling it.

Please post some pics of your S650 whipple setup!
What tires did you go with? I’ll be ordering soon for track days.

Ah true, track tires would be best, but those don't last long with traction control off. Suspension mods definitely then to help with the wheel hop/spin.
