Hey guys, going to be getting a whipple soon. Oil pump gears as well as CS.
-
On fence with stage 1 or 2. I know stage 1 has the warranty. But how has the process with whipple been to actually get them to honour claims made for the warranty? I know stage 2 makes more power and it’s not covered unfortunately. I want this car to live long. I don’t drive stupid and I baby the car. I’d hate to get stage 1 wishing I got the 2 only to have an issue that whipple doesn’t cover with the warranty.
cheers

i have not worked with Whipple, but from what a co-worker of mine who has has said, they are alright to deal with. i will ask him on Monday and report back. my dealer has installed 3 or 4 Ford Performance Whipple kits and have heard no issues about them, plus you really have to outright abuse these engines for them to start having problems. you are also able to upgrade from Stage 1 to 2 at a later date, costing $1700 for a new throttle body, intake tube, and tune file

If they find out you did OPG they could void your stage 1 warranty. Go stage 2, the tune is much better.

Also the first thing I would be worried about is the transmission and they only cover $2,000 towards that repair

Ok that’s reassuring to hear. You planning boost down the line?

Opg would void it? Seriously?

Ok… my 2 cents.
Get the cats off the car, either headers or deletes.
Go stage 2, don’t waste money/time with stage 1, upgrading later is crazy expensive

Don’t bother with OPGs, huge waste of time and money.

Don’t worry about warranty… you just have to get it out of your mind, if you eat a piston, put an aluminator in it, if you smoke a 10r80, get it rebuilt/beefed
It will probably snap a driver side axle minimum, either plug a gt350 in or plan on ford racing sticks..

you just need to be prepared to throw some “oh shit money” around

Making current decisions based on imaginary future outcomes is crazy… worrying about whipple warranty claims and who pays what etc… nope… huge waste of time and thought power.

Ok I get it. I have a manual. I was trying to avoid headers :( just because these motors get SO raspy with them….

i did some digging and here is what i found about the warranty on the supercharger kit for stage 1:
- there is a warranty on the supercharger kit's parts for 3 years or 36,000 miles/60,000 kilometers, whichever comes first
- there is a powertrain warranty that is for 3 years or 36,000 miles/60,000 kilometers from the vehicle's original warranty start date
  • this warranty works in tandem with Ford's factory warranty to a degree. if something powertrain fails but is not caused by the supercharger, then it might be covered by Ford's factory 5 years or 60,000 miles/96,000 kilometers powertrain warranty
  • however, if something does fail due to the supercharger and your vehicle is more than 3 years old or has more than 36,000 miles/60,000 kilometers, then Whipple will not cover it
  • the warranty covers an aggregate $9,500 USD of coverage; $7,500 for the engine and $2,000 for the transmission, and only covers certain parts. see this link for specific details
  • the warranty does not cover front and rear axles, transfer cases, suspension, and exhaust
  • Ford Performance's kit might have a slightly better warranty, though their warranty information was last updated in 2021. according to their warranty, it is very similar to Whipple's, but covers $1,000 for the transfer case and $1,000 for each of the rear axles, though it does not specify if an "axle" is the differential and half shafts together or each half shaft individually. the aggregate coverage is also raised to $11,500 USD
so basically, if you will have 36k miles/60k kilometers by the time the supercharger is installed, just skip the stage 1 option

I went with the stage one option because there is zero fuss or muss If something goes wrong, I bring it to the dealership that installed it and they take care of what they need to take care of. If a little bit of money comes out of pocket then so be it, but as others have mentioned when you play with the big boys, you need to be able to throw some oh shit money around.

Why didn’t I go for a stage two? Unless you are going to the drag strip and trying to run record passes you don’t need a stage two. Sometimes more isn’t always necessary. Believe me on the street 810 is plenty.

Also, if you do blow something up having the warranty versus not having it is peace of mind. If you drive like a maniac and you go stage one then at least someone else has to pay for some of your repairs but if you go stage two and drive like a maniac no one is paying for squat except for you.

Negative I had a break-in. Of about 1800 to 2000 km and then took it in.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is for me personally a stage two is a little bit overkill. I applaud guys that get them and run them at the track going for personal bests and all the rest of it but for me on the street a stage one is more than enough. I also don’t drive crazy anymore and so whatever does go wrong would typically be covered to a degree.
