Why did you choose an automatic over a manual.

That's right, it's just the stop and go part is omitted.
Also for remote rev! 😜

I really didn’t think the MT-82 would last very long behind the stage 1 Whipple. My S550 was M6 and I enjoyed it. But central Texas traffic with a clutch was brutal. So far so good, compared to the A10 in the Camaro….well, the Ford version has its charms.

Today's manuals have too
many gears to be considered fun to drive (my opinion). I used to like shifting a four speed, but six would be a chore.
I love my 6 speed but with all the power the 5.0 has I sometimes skip shift when feeling lazy. 1st to 3rd to 5th or 2nd to 4th to 6th, almost like having a 3 speed stick! Nice and relaxed when you want to be lazy or have a quick row through all 6 when you want or need to.

Since mine is not a daily driver, and I have no urge to have an auto Mustang, I definitely am sticking to a manual. I really enjoy the extra connection I feel with the manual.

Don't ever buy a corvette then, they have 7 forward gears

I don’t like having multiple cars. MT6 was the only way I would buy a gt. If not, I would have kept my civic.

I skip 3rd quite a bit, especially in Sport and Track modes!

At 73 I no longer feel the need to row my own. Even though it's my fun car, I am happy to let it do the shifting for me. I am further comforted by the fact that the most advanced performance cars in the world, Formula 1, as driven by the best of the best only have 2 pedals!

This topic is often the subject of debate. I went with the A10 just because. I've had a number of manual transmission performance cars over the years. There's really no right or wrong choice. It's a matter of personal preference. Whatever you choose, enjoy it.

If Ford had equipped their Mustang GT's with the Tremec, I would have gotten the manual.
However, due to their implementation of the Getrag grinder on the GT, I opted for the shiftable 10 speed transmission.

Did my first all out pull to redline through 5 gears the other day. Banged through the gears as fast as my old drag racing days that I remember. No grinding or hangups between gears So I’m not sure what all the fuss about the MT86 is.

I've owned a manual for 30 years and back in the day they were better at performance and economy compared to the "slush boxes". The evolution of technology in automatic transmissions has rendered manuals obsolete in every way. I see no reason other than "driver engagement" to own a manual. It's all about function to me.

I noticed in the US many people feel the need to prove to others that they can drive a manual. 🤣
Spent many years driving a stick, no need to have one now to prove to others that I can do it. Told my daughters when they got their licenses that it was a skill they needed to learn and bought manual cars for them too at 16.
I'm not sure who @RaceRedder is talking to, but I have never had a need to prove anything to anyone much less my ability to drive a manual. For most Americans with performance cars it's about feeling more connected to the car and controlling it the way you want to. It's about operating the clutch and having control over the car in a way that an automatic cannot replicate. If you're into drifting (and I am) a manual is really the only way to go. Sure it's also nice that a likely thief will move on seeing three pedals and a stick shift, but there no need for this American to prove anything. I drive what I drive because I like it. Period. The end.

@JimC good for you teaching your girls how to drive a manual. If they ever get in a situation where they have to drive someone home because the people they're with are too drunk, and the drunk person's car has a manual transmission, they'll be so glad they have that skill.

  • I got a manual because that is what the car came with when I saw it on the lot.
  • My wife can't drive a manual, but she also does not care to drive my car, so no loss there.
  • Getting stuck in traffic does suck, but so do taxes.
  • Physically, I'm 'old'. Mentally, I'm still a kid, so I like to lower the windows and rev it (active exhaust on the vehicle) whenever I go through tunnels/underpasses.
