I love my 6 speed but with all the power the 5.0 has I sometimes skip shift when feeling lazy. 1st to 3rd to 5th or 2nd to 4th to 6th, almost like having a 3 speed stick! Nice and relaxed when you want to be lazy or have a quick row through all 6 when you want or need to.Today's manuals have too
many gears to be considered fun to drive (my opinion). I used to like shifting a four speed, but six would be a chore.
Don't ever buy a corvette then, they have 7 forward gearsToday's manuals have too

I skip 3rd quite a bit, especially in Sport and Track modes!I love my 6 speed but with all the power the 5.0 has I sometimes skip shift when feeling lazy. 1st to 3rd to 5th or 2nd to 4th to 6th, almost like having a 3 speed stick! Did my first all out pull to redline through 5 gears the other day. Banged through the gears as fast as my old drag racing days that I remember. No grinding or hangups between gears So I’m not sure what all the fuss about the MT86 is.If Ford had equipped their Mustang GT's with the Tremec, I would have gotten the manual.
However, due to their implementation of the Getrag grinder on the GT, I opted for the shiftable 10 speed transmission.
I noticed in the US many people feel the need to prove to others that they can drive a manual.![]()
I'm not sure who @RaceRedder is talking to, but I have never had a need to prove anything to anyone much less my ability to drive a manual. For most Americans with performance cars it's about feeling more connected to the car and controlling it the way you want to. It's about operating the clutch and having control over the car in a way that an automatic cannot replicate. If you're into drifting (and I am) a manual is really the only way to go. Sure it's also nice that a likely thief will move on seeing three pedals and a stick shift, but there no need for this American to prove anything. I drive what I drive because I like it. Period. The end.Spent many years driving a stick, no need to have one now to prove to others that I can do it. Told my daughters when they got their licenses that it was a skill they needed to learn and bought manual cars for them too at 16.
