I believe they're hinting that they pulled off their goal of a sub 7 lap time.

My guess is durability. The 5.2 has been around for some time now, and is a proven design. If you're building a car like this, you want something that you can go on the track, and just thrash constantly without worrying about having issues.QUOTE="Ewheels, post: 3321942, member: 41117"]
I'm still confused as to why they went supercharger over turbocharger. Granted they already had the power unit from the GT500 so it would save on cost but being their halo-car at over $300k, I doubt cost was even a concern.
Could've had less weight, less heat, more power, boost by gear, etc. There's a reason practically no one uses superchargers on road course cars anymore.
Dude, the car was only revealed like a little over a year ago. A year between reveal and release is well below what we see with a lot of reveals.Unpopular take⦠this has taken too long and been too drug out⦠the car looks old already.
they should work on getting debuts closer in time to real world rollouts.
they probably have years left for this run and im tryna see whatās next.
The GTD is a track focused road car. It is not a class certified race car. So the only wins will be owner based events. It might look passƩ, but form always follows function. All it needs is a win or two, and all of the criticism will be gone.
I still donāt get all the negativity in regards to the GTD. It should be celebrated not berated. But all I read is should have been this, it should have been that. Why didnāt they do this, or that.Dude, the car was only revealed like a little over a year ago. A year between reveal and release is well below what we see with a lot of reveals.
Ford is certainly capable of making a durable turbo V8. Plenty of automakers achieve this. Sure it would've been uncharted territory for them but a turbo platform would've made the cooling load more manageable. My guess is durability. I believe it was a MotorTrend interview where Ford's CEO said a turbocharged V6 Ecoboost motor was considered at one point because it would be lighter, but they thought a V8 suited the muscle car vibe better.
I suppose my comments put me in that category.I still donāt get all the negativity in regards to the GTD. It should be celebrated not berated. But all I read is should have been this, it should have been that. Why didnāt they do this, or that.
And if it doesnāt beat the GT2, or even the ZL1, the world will not end. It will still be a world class car and a Mustang at that. Let those who are plucking down their $300k+ decide whether or not to cancel their orders over this. I doubt any will.
gross.V6 Ecoboost like that they had in GT40!
