Assuming Ford is not production/supply constrained, do you think Ford would be able to sell as many Mustang DHs as Chevy C8s to the general public at the current price points?

Corvette sales are almost the same as ICE Mustang sales (to include all Mustang trims) at the moment.

I was talking about all Mustangs, not Dark Horse specifically. And that’s my point, Mustang should really start being viewed as more of a niche car, much like Corvette is. Through that lens, the Mustang is expensive yes, but not necessarily stupid expensive. Low volume, specialty cars generally are more expensive. The volume just isn’t there anymore, so it really should no longer be viewed as the affordable muscle/pony car for the masses. Because clearly the masses don’t want it like they once did.

Great points, especially the Taco bell genZZZ.

At the end of the day Ford is still a business, responsible to it's shareholders. Hence the title of this thread. CEO Jim Farley, recently stating the company's strategy is to make all new models, particularly, electric vehicles, profitable within 12 months of their launch date, meaning they aim for profitability within the first year. If not they're gone, lesson learned from the Lightning. So what would the plan be for old models that are suddenly not profitable?

Making the Mustang a niche similar to the vette, would require a massive change IMO to justify a larger price tag for vehicle with a smaller demand. Let's say a mid engine, AWD, hybrid V8, I'm still in market. Although if they go the other route, 4 door sedan V6 I'm out.
I do think there’s more variations to come to take advantage of the Mustang brand. The name still has broad recognition and is definitely worth something. I have a few friends that have Mach E’s and they’re constantly telling me how much they love their ā€œMustangā€ (then I tell them how much better mine sounds than theirs and they change the subject šŸ˜‚). So the name definitely has value still. I’d be all in for an AWD hybrid V8, in either coupe or sedan. Hell, I would probably buy a RWD V8 Mustang sedan. I would even be ok if they dropped the Ecoboost V6 from the GT into a future Mustang trim (maybe a mid engine Mustang?). I’d rather Ford be a little innovative/creative rather than kill it off like GM did with the Camaro.

Unfortunately, without big volume, it’s going to be somewhat expensive. Especially if they want to recoup their R&D expenses in a timely manner. For GM to be able to offer the C8 for under $70k for a base model is pretty amazing, considering they basically started from scratch. I assume Ford could do the same, just a matter of how much they want to and how long they’re willing to wait to recoup their initial investment.

Interesting times we’re in for sure.

For. the 25 price increase, Ford should have ditched those stupid screens, added The Tremec and more aggressI’ve wheel choices.

I love my screens. What I hate about it is that I have my car almost a year and still no tuning. If I knew it was going to take this long I would’ve purchased a Mach1 instead for a heck of a lot less than what I paid for my performance pack. If I could do it all over again I’d get rid of it and find my Mach1. Come on Ford get with the program.
Glad to hear you like the screens. Most people I've asked have liked them. What kind of tuning would you be doing on the vehicle? Sorry, I don't know much about tuning, just looking to learn/hear perspective.

I was >< close to not having one either. I wanted a manual, I swear by them, but the getrag it terrible. I wanted a convertible first, V8 second, RWD 3rd and manual 4th.

Mustang won out for me on all the vehicles I looked at.

Just out of curiosity, what other vehicles were you looking at?

Camaro - could not find one I wanted where the dealer was not adding on 5K or more. Also I had a 2020 and a 2023, so kind of wanted something different.

Vette - they are decent but for too many reasons it was not for me

Nothing used, wanted to stay in my price range. Very limited options for my wants.

Some people here need to stop watching TV/social media and look at real numbers.
Sure ... as long as you ignore the fact that cumulative inflation has raised the prices of nearly everything anywhere from 20% to 200% or more over the past ~4 years while wages have NOT gone up even a fraction of that, the economy is booming.

That's called "gaslighting". Don't believe what you SEE or HEAR ... believe what someone else TELLS you to believe.

The US dollar has lost 14% of its value since 2021. That means what used to cost $100 now costs $116.43 (according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index)

In layman's terms, between 2021 and 2024, the dollar had an average inflation rate of ~5%. FIVE percent PER YEAR. For FOUR years. You don't get to just ignore that and say, "Hey, inflation is down to under 2% (this year)" and pretend like everything is great. You don't get to ignore compounding inflation.

That's like watching your wife bang the neighbor for four years, then year 5, she tells you she's going to be faithful again, everything is all better and just ignore what she's been doing for four years.

Pretending that prices didn't go up DRASTICALLY and then expecting everyone to simply look at the CURRENT rate of inflation to label the economy as strong/good is ... quite frankly ... total bullshit.

I've always loved the Camaros. But they can be quite pricey as well. I worked detailing cars at the Chevy dealership to get through college so I've been around those cars a lot. It is always fun to hear what people shopped for while buying the car they have.

I like the S650 GT a lot, but after really thinking about it, the only "con" my EcoBoost has in comparison is that it doesn't sound like a GT. Other than that, I get better fuel economy and handling for a daily city driver. Right now it doesn't make sense for me to upgrade to what would essentially be a better sounding car and not much else.

I guess this is just me saying I'm no longer looking to buy a GT as soon as I possibly can anymore. Maybe that'll change when/if the sedan materializes at dealerships, but for now I'm content.

At least you’re enjoying your Stang. I’m still waiting to buy a DH or something else in that range. Lol
