Quite a few people do. They would have sold a couple thousand more if you could tune it

BMW said M2/M3 sales are up...
M3 is a 4 door, large on the inside, and can easily double as a daily driver.

Definitely wouldn't call an M3 large on the inside. It has more room in the backseat than the Mustang, and it's a physically smaller car than the Mustang, so that just means the 4 door Mustang will be even bigger to match the interior room.

I have seen cars that "appear" big on the outside, but are actually quite small on the inside. For example, I do not fit inside the Ghibli (5 series size), Quattroporte, or the Gulia. The 3 series is actually quite roomy inside the cabin and the rear seats are actually usable by adults. That is not true of the Mustang. Therefore, my comment about the 3 being large on the inside. At least the 2016 my wife has and the 2025 we drove this weekend was. The footwells are a bit cramped when wearing size 12 work boots (and I can't wear steel-toed boots in it and drive it), but honestly, it has a lot more room (especially headroom) than many cars I have been in.

If you want a roomy car, get a Genesis, but the one I test drove was awful and I would not recommend it (floaty, no power down low, floated like a boat)

The problem with the M3, M4, M5, Mwhatever is that they are european garbage. I've never had a BMW anything in my driveway that was worth pissing on if it caught fire.

I agree 100% that Ford overpriced the Mustang. Pony cars and muscle cars were always small cars with big motors for low prices. That's why they sold like hotcakes to younger guys and gals and the enthusiast crowd.

In my experience, the M340 and (not withstanding the N63 engine), my 550i both had exceptional build qualities. Yes, my engine was PoS and BMW screwed that motor up BAD, but overall, they have been rock solid with very little issues and no fit/finish issues (both owned since new). IMO, they are on par with the Japanese in terms of build quality.
FORD on the other hand has had its hands full with quality issues. Is this a problem with the assembly line workers? I seriously doubt it. Most people go to work and want to do a good job and I am positive the folks at the Ford plants are no exception. It's a management issue. Too much going through in not enough time to get it right, leading to recalls. Lack of testing on supplied parts, ensuring everything is there and fits right.

Even my F350, which I think Ford workers did a pretty good job on, has compromises in the design that would not be made by BMW if they were to make such a vehicle (they don't).

So calling BMW Euro Trash while praising the (current) Mustang is a huge miss. Sorry.

How can Ford improve
invest in quality control. That means molds that form parts are removed and replaced BEFORE they start to show wear, not after defects have entered the line (and are used) It also means good pacing so that people have enough time to check their work before it moves to the next station, or that the systems are not leaving out critical components.

Invest in their people. Ford's most important folks are their engineers and their assembly line folks. Make sure they have the skills needed and keep them up to date.

Don't be satisfied with "good enough" Go close the door on a BMW, now go close the door on a Ford. Feel that difference? Same with the hood, trunk, etc. Their frame and portals are rock solid and close well and solidly.

Ensure that when you say you are targeting certain vehicles as "benchmarks" make sure you beat them. Acceleration, (lateral, forward, and braking) are not the only numbers. Weight balance, building in that feeling of confidence for that driver going round the curve, hard acceleration without wheel hop. Tires should be planted in corners. Body roll should be minimal, but you should not feel like you've been beaten up after a day on the road. (admittedly, the BMW 340 does a bad job at ride comfort, the 550i was exceptional at this while maintaining exceptional control, but that's a much more expensive vehicle). There is a reason the German cars are usually the ones being benchmarked by American car makers, but they rarely benchmark ours.

Maybe we just need to stop comparing the mustang to other cars, its a mustang, it is what it is and if you don't like it, get something else. I'm tired of hearing it doesn't stack up to other cars. I knew exactly what I was getting when I got mine, no surprises, no disappointments.
I only drove 911's for over 30yrs, got tired of the same thing and bought my S650 GT Performance Package not because it compares to a 911 but because it's a Mustang and doesn't pretend to be anything else 🤘

Agreed. I like the Mustang because it’s a loud, fun, great looking American V8 that doesn’t apologize for being a Mustang. It’s a blast and an affordable one at that.

Is it perfect? Heck no, far from it. Is it as refined as a German luxury car? Nope, nor do I care. I considered a V8 AMG Benz…but you know what? It’s not as fun as a Mustang GT - IMO. A German or Italian V8 is more refined, but a Mustang GT doesn’t cost 125K+. The lack of refinement makes the Mustang feel more fun and alive.

The Mustang has soul, character and attitude to boot…. Gotta love it. Not many cars do anymore.

Just my 2 cents.

BMW is most definitely not trash. Their new design ethos might be. But not the engineering, build quality, or power plants.

any BMW isn’t really that similar to the Mustang. Whole BMW has very capable, sporty cars, they are usually viewed as business class with amenities to match while Mustang is more raw and fun.

so while no one bats an eyelash at the mention of a 4 door m5, the sight of a 4 doir “Mustang” would be vomit-inducing.

Ford should make a 4 doir sports car. But they should make it Torino. Not mustang.

Porsche toyed with a 4 door stretch 911 that induced uncontrollable vomiting 🤢 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

A 4 door Mustang would be that with uncontrollable diarrhea thrown in 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

I can almost guarantee that the screens aren't the reason for the decline in sales. It's almost certainly a combination of price/value coinciding with historically high cost of living pressures. Very few people are in a position to buy an expensive sports car that guzzles gas. I think it's probably that simple.

the screens aren’t an issue. Every vehicles is doing screens in a big way now. Ford would have been foolish not to. Snd the mustang screens aren’t an issue some of the best UX/ui/graphics in the industry. Super great.

I don’t think it’s the fuel economy either. Even wimpy SUVs have terrible economy and they’re popular. I can’t tell you how many expensive, gas guzzling f series and bronco raptors I’m seeing in LA on the daily.

I think it comes down to the “new” mustang being old. It looks a LOT like the old car and actually IS the old car. And people know this. Then ford charges an arm and a leg for this old news. That’s a recipe for trouble.

you want to sell me something old, it has better be on discount. You want to charge a premium? Give me something new and so fantastic, it blows my mind.

people know a grift when they see it. And that’s what ford is doing now. So it’s only natural that not many are buying in.

Not a single problem with that...until Ford came out and said that the 3 series was its competition. If you are saying that, you need to compete with that.

Ford did improve their interior, not enough. Ford quality slipped (which was already not as good).
I have no problem with the mustang being a mustang, but then Ford needs to let the mustang BE a mustang and not something else. That means a lower price point because the mustang was all about being affordable to a lot more people.

It's this.

But some of my local dealers are beginning to discount Dark Horses:

https://www.sheehyfordgaithersburg.com/new-vehicles/?_dFR[make][0]=Ford&_dFR[model][0]=Mustang&_dFR[trim][0]=Dark%20Horse&_dFR[type][0]=New&_dFR[year][0]=2025

The challenge is that 2025 G87 M2s are being sold for 5-7% below MSRP which makes the value proposition significant compared to the DH.

I'm waiting to see when Granger will do 4-5% under invoice for DHs. Otherwise, I would probably opt for a 2026+ G87 M2.

Agree totally with @RLE55 . Having had camaros, bikes, jeeps blah blah blah the 24 DH Premium is my 2nd Mustang and I love it for what it is.

Do I care if you like the S650? Nope
Do I care if you like what I've done to my S650? Nope
Do I care if Ford sold more than 10,000? Nope
Do I care if Ford jacks the price on the 25s vs my 24? Nope. Glad I bought when I did
Do I care if the screens fart and go black? Nope. Warranty baby

I bought it because I can
I drive it because I choose to

I'm not looking to nickle or dime my own enjoyment with silly questions like "Will it retain it's value over time" and "What happens if the Hellcat/Corvette/Camaro people think it looks too much like their stuff".
