Was testing yesterday about the limiter with various gears with 10AT set on manual, more an exercise than aimed to obtain the max performance.
Gears 1-5 they goes up to the limiter (around 7500rpm) then it kicks in.
Gears 6+ the limiter kicks in at around 6800rpm.

Now there's no really reason to go above those rpm (performance wise, it's better to change it before), but it's a annoying because the reference on the dashboard is no longer valid, also if you hit the rpm limiter before changing the gear (ie: going from 6th > 7th gear), it delays the gear change and you lose a good chunk of time (it's like the engine takes a while to reprise the acceleration).

I guess the software does this for some reason (preserve the engine?), but still odd... anyone?

PS: I also triple checked the speed limiter on EU version, i was sure it was next to my previous Bullitt, I was wrong.. the damn thing kicks in at 252Km/h on the dashboard (Ford mentions 254Km/h), my Bullitt gone up to 273Km/h (263Km/h on the GPS). I know there's no easy way to remove the thing. :(

I had the same experience last time on the Autobahn. Mine is a US import, so the limiter is not a EU thing.
I guess it will be the first thing to remove, once the software is cracked.

You talking about the RPM limiter @6800 on 6th+ gear, or the max speed limiter?

The mustang is limited to 170MPH. The likely reason is the tires stock tires are rated at 180MPH and tires don't last long when you go above their maximum speed. If you remove the limit you need to rethink the tires.

170mph = 273kmh.. here we're talking about 252kmh = 156mph. That's a not so small difference.

(Michelin PS4S.. the tires I normally use, are rated "Y" = 186+ mph... 300 Kmh or more)

Well, I guess that's why OP opened this topic. His car doesn't reach 170MPH but around 156MPH.
My S550 GT was also limited to 156MPH.

There is a gentleman agreement between all manufacturers in Europe to limit the max speed to 250km/h. It's fairly old and was established decades ago when regular cars couldn't reach 200km/h.

Every German car is limited to 250 km/h. Exceptions are only made for performance cars where a 'performance upgrade' can be bought by the customer. However, in some cases that only unlocks the car until 280km/h or so.

But to be fair: there aren't many cars that can go above 250 or 280 and where traffic is allowing such speeds...

As already mentioned, my Bullitt (EU) went up to 273Km/h (263Km/h on GPS), and it wasn't that "old". Also it doesn't even reach the top speed mentioned by Ford Europe (by few Km/h.. but hey..).

That article is 20 years old but gives some background knowledge. Besides, there are almost no cars that can do 250km/h comfortably. My BMW might hit 270 but it takes ages to get there and going above 240 really is not confidence inspiring…

The first time I drove over 200km/h in the S550 I thought the car would break apart… They improved many of the flaws from the early builds but they should make the Gt500 hood pins come in standard.

Strange. I Reached top speed numerous times and stayed for a while driving at those speeds in my S550 GT.

I can tell you, it was very comfortable.

i can confirm on a US model Dark Horse that 6th gear does cut off around 6800rpm. its super annoying when you're in the groove, shifting at redline, then suddenly that snaps you out of it. the thing is that there is a reason to bring it all the way to redline; the peak power is at 7500rpm (listed as 7250rpm because Ford tests with the manual which has an unmarked 250rpm lower redline)

I have no problem in any of the cars I owned (mostly BMW and "recently" S550 and S650) to go over 250Km/h comfortably. However that's not the point of the discussion, we're not talking about daily driving, but about the car specs.

PS: my Bullitt gone up to 273Km/h... not in ages.. pretty "fast" I would say (in 5th gear... since it was manual).

So now we know it's a thing of "everyone".. who know why. Yes it's annoying, because it confuses my shifting point (until you get accustomed of it). Maybe because it reaches the max torque sustained by the trasmission.
Does anyone know if it's a thing of the manual as well? I mean in the manual the rpm limiter always hits at 7500rpm in every gear?

I've did some research of why there's a 6800rpm limiter on 6th gear on 10AT, and potentially found the answer. In reality there's a limitation on every gear, and it's about the "10R Element Max Rotational Speed Limit" (this was a fact even in the S550, in fact it was tuned with modded cars) that is the max rotational speed of each element in the gearbox.

In 5th (or lower) gears you won't reach this limit, because the overall rpm limiter (at around 7500rpm) will kick first.
In 7th (or upper) gears you won't reach this limit, because the max speed limiter will kick first.

So you will notice it only with the 6th gear (max rotational speed is reached, but not the overall rpm limiter nor the max speed limiter).
