Our Mustang owners manual says on page 371:

"Do not use supplemental engine oil additives because they are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that your vehicle warranty does not cover."

My FAV episode of Garage Squad was from their first season. The car owner who needed help, had a Datsun 240Z. When they were doing the tear down/inpection/assessment part of the program; they removed the oil filter cover and discovered an oil soaked roll of toilet paper inside!

Sounds like a Frantz oil filter

Not the best pic but the most recent one i have, also not a mustang, showing a dirty injector, although i did wipe it with my thumb before snapping the pic.

Agreed, one size does not fit all. Each has its own use and purpose. Care needs to be used when selecting otherwise unintended consequences are highly probable. Not sure i’d be seafoaming if i wasn’t doing a flush. Think of it this way. If the ‘additive’ is so good why can’t you just replace all with the ‘additive’ and never have to worry about it again - cuz that aint it’s purpose - a porpoise is not a penguin.

There is simply no need for additives in modern engines that get regular, high quality oil changes. Top Tier fuel is also helpful.

Unless you are trying to temporarily mask a problem as a hail Mary on a high mileage engine, stay far away from additives. An occasional splash of quality fuel injector cleaner won't hurt but in general avoid additives. Top tier gas is very important in my experience. I used to drive about 25k a year and always used Mobil /Exxon, Shell etc and my cars ran well over 200k miles. Some over 300k miles. My co-workers used the cheapest fuel they could find. Guess who had the most issues? So IMHO, fuel does make a difference and the cost difference is minor overall.
Just my opinion.

Many of the articles I've read on oil filters claim that the biggest problem with off- brand filters is a leaking drain back valve.

I used to use Lucas on my older vehicles, but with modern engines and tighter tolerances, I started looking for something more advanced. I ended up trying TriboTEX, and it’s been night and day. It’s not a thickener like Lucas—it actually uses nanotech to reverse wear. I used it in my newer daily (just over 60k miles), and the idle smoothed out noticeably.
