@roadpilot...agreed unless you break one of them. I ordered some spares - just in case - took 2 weeks to come from somewhere in Texas.
Generally speaking these 'Christmas tree' style push pins are only used to facilitate installation. They don't actually secure it from strong forces such as wind. This is especially useful when something is big like this panel and you have one person installing it. Without the push pins, it would be difficult to hold it up and try to get screws started.

So the screws are doing the main job of holding the trey in place. And the Christmas tree push pins are just to hold in place while putting the screws on. Am I correct?

A plastic Christmas tree serving as a primary means to secure something that will be exposed to high winds or similar forces will not last. These push pins are often, but not always, used to facilitate (re)assembly.

If the plastic pins alone could do the job, you'd have 19 plastics pins instead of 2 pins and 17 screws, as they cost less to manufacture and install.

I’ve done 5 oil changes so far. Removed the two types of pins and left them off. All the screws holding it do the job. Use a drill or an electric ratchet. Anyone doing maintenance should have either one of those.

This is an awesome tool! I've had mine for a few years and one of the best investments ever!

@Grabber1 ..... awesome looks identical to me - good to know. Thanks for the info. Yours will probably work fine, although having a dusting of ocd I'd probably check after a freeway run :-) I bought a bunch of aftermarket too then I chickened-out and bought the Ford oem pins. They weren't expensive they just took a long time to arrive, hence me ordering them ahead of time - just in case. Ford PN for the finned pin you show is W711687 S300 (4 pcs) Ford PN for the other pin - the split pin - is W714040 S300 (4pcs). I always hand the two packs to the tech and tell him to use a pin(s) if he needs to and just leave the packs on the passenger seat. So far one pin (one of the split ones) was used. So three shield removals one pin used.
I don’t believe W711687-S300 is correct. Instead I the got W709371-s300, and they look exactly like the Au-Ve-Co Chrysler spec 23966 as well as the ones I pulled out (definitely one-time use). This was confirmed by a local dealer who had to look it up by part number to show it fits the 2024 Mustang GT belly pan. Looking up the belly pan showed the 15 screws and 4 of the other push in type, not 2 of one and 2 of the other.

The Ford branded ones come in a 4 pack and have the same indent in the tip and slot on the shaft (cue the “that’s what she said” jokes) as the Chrysler spec ones. They’re pretty hard to find in stock locally. I had to drive 90 miles to snag a pack. My nearest dealer was out, the next closest had 8 in stock, but they were precommited, then the next closest dealer in the opposite direction had 2 in stock that were also precommitted. Finally a dealer had 4 in stock that I could buy.

Here’s pics of the 4 pack, the remaining 2, and the ones that had to be surgically removed.

I wouldn’t waste my time buying those. I have only the bolts holding mine on and it ain’t going nowhere. Those pins are useless IMO

I don’t like engineering a solution for a car under warranty. These are cheap insurance IMO.

You think 4 plastic pins is gonna ruin a warranty when you have 20 bolts holding it on? Um ok. I mean I’ve got over 20k miles with it like this and no issues. Regardless if anyone else wants to skip the these you will be fine

I replaced those with the more easily removable type with the center pin...

@DarkMatterGrey ..... well that's interesting - I took the part numbers right off the two different Ford packs and they fit my 2024 GT (built Sept 2023, if that makes any difference).
Mine is a late 2023 as well, 11/29 to be exact. I put waaay too much research in to this. Even compared the ones from Dorman at a local auto parts store and Hilman from Lowe’s. Nothing is close except for the Ford ones and the matching “Chrysler” ones that I have in my response above. I guess there’s a chance yours was different. Do you happen to have any pictures of the old vs. new?
