The problem with EV is the misunderstanding of the fact that the Lithium batteries are not really recyclable. Only the steel framework of the batteries are recycled. There is nothing they can do with the spent Lithium. They just drop it in an abandoned mineshaft like nuclear waste.
There is no way to reenergize the lithium because it would blow up. Chemistry folks, it is in the same column of other unstable elements like sodium.
It isn't actually pure Lithium in the battery! It is a Lithium compound! Chemistry folks - go and look it up!

And your comment about recycling is just plain wrong! At least do some basic research before spouting misinformation!

How Are EV Batteries (Actually) Recycled? - Union of Concerned Scientists

New recycling method ā€˜recovers 98% of lithium from EV batteries’

Save the mustang...

1. Kill the Mach E
2. Kill the ecoboost.
Killing the Mach E and ecoboost will kill the mustang. Neither are contributing to the bad numbers. Not one single person is going...Hey, I want to buy a mustang...OH, I think I will get the Mach E instead. It's a completely different vehicle. The ecoboost gets people in the door who can't afford the GT, INCREASING overall sales.

1) economy. It's REALLY hard to justify a 3rd car, which for a lot of people, is what the mustang is. Most people with one or two cars for the family simply can't afford to have a 3-9 month car. When the car was significantly cheaper, it was much easier to get young folks to buy the car. Today, they are looking for fuel economy and for a practical car.

2) quality. If you are selling a 65k car that costs as much as a BMW, Lexus, or other high end vehicle, it better have high end quality in both appointments and in fit/finish/quality of parts. Ford does not have that across the line of it's vehicles.

3) Performance. You need to have the performance to back up the name. The current mustang is slower than my 12 year old BMW 550i in the 0-60 range where MOST people experience performance...only a very small percentage will track their cars.

using this platform to create a 4 door sedan that can actually fit 4 adults, MAYBE even have RWD biased AWD or just RWD and you are gaining an entire new market that will supplement the Mustang and make it more economical to produce.

My fear is that without some way of bringing in more sales to the platform, the S650 will be the last mustang ever.

1). Economy, sucks for everything on the market. Big freaking deal, have you priced eggs recently?

2). Quality is there, fit finish perfect. I spent a decade working European vehicles, just saying specs are a far cry from the finished product.

3). Mustang has always been a "sports car" and it lives up to its name. The 650 with a 5.0 is the definition of an all around sports car.

Days of the 4 door sedan are gone from many of the auto manufactures. You want 4 doors your choices are a crossover sub or a truck. Look around sedans are dead.

1. Maybe in South Dakota but the overall economy is doing just fine. Just look at overall car sales. Eggs are up due to reduced production caused by bird flu. Please do your homework before posting inaccurate information.

2. Ford’s record for quality has been spotty at best. Some S650 owners are happy with the fit and finish of their cars, others are very disappointed. Been this way for years.

3. The Mustang has never been considered a real ā€œsportsā€ car. It is a Pony car. It created the category and has defined it for 60 years.

Please tell us about your 550i. Still stock? How fast is it 0-60? Road tests i've seen say 0-60 in 4.7 secs. I used to beat those with my almost stock SRT4. I think a S650 GT would smoke that 0-60 and put about 10 car lengths on it in the 1/4.

Globally 4 door cars are far from dead. Hence why Ford sell the Mondeo / Fusion in China and the Middle East. German market is still very strong for 4 door / estate cars hence BMW/Merc/Audi offerings

You beat me to it. A totally irrelevant piece of information. My ā€˜15 EB was faster.

Re 3. - it has always surprised me that some Americans call the Mustang a 'sports' car when it even has GT in the name!

Thanks. I missed that in my post. Some folks think only the US matters.

He's obsessed with 0-60 times...

Car and Driver says:

Standing ¼-mile: 13.1 sec @ 109 mph

(2011....2010-2017 was the F10)

Not sure how those BMW's only make 400hp out of a twin turbo 4.4l V8

yep, still stock, 4.2s or so.

Again, quarter miles is something most people do NOT do. Racing on the roads is a special kind of stupid and I have no desire to track my car.

I am sure you could beat me on the 1/4, again, I am merely talking 0-60 which is where most people actually use the performance of their vehicle.
