I wonder how a Mustang would do with an F-150 intake? We have takeoffs from both vehicles from Whipple installs, complete with throttle bodies if anyone is interested :)

The current F-150 5.0L runs an 87 mm throttle body like the S550 GT-350 and Mach 1 so likely would need to cobble some parts together to feed the larger throttle body. The S550 GT throttle body is significantly smaller than the F-150 at 80 mm. I’d bet you’d gain a fat chunk of low end torque and lose a good chunk of top end. The trucks intake camshaft is where a lot of the extra torque comes from, the lift is 11.5 mm on the truck cam.

What’s confusing is why the truck was running more throttle body than the Mustang for a few years. Perhaps the larger throttle body and runner bore was to help eke out more top end power with the not so great for top end camshaft grind? My guess.

better 0-60 and around town feel. Better mountain road feel. Negligible 1320. Worse top end.

I'm sure there would be hood clearance issues with the truck piece on a Mustang, but as long as we are what if ing.
One of our techs has a Boss intake on his '19 F-150, and its a real runner. Of course it had to be tuned.

The intake in my truck is quite a bit taller, feeding it would be interesting too

it would sound better, be way faster and more powerful, and get around the same mileage and emissions, if not slightly worse. You’d barely have to boost the 8 compared to pushing the 4 and 6.
I don’t need to be arm twisted to want more power from every Mustang powerplant, but I would point out that there are quite a few EB Mustang owners here and there needs to be a less expensive option to get into the car; a “gateway” model of Mustang if you will. Go ahead and spec out your v8 ecoboost that gets the same economy, and emissions and is way faster. If it works out, I won’t be the only one interested.

If every Mustang is set up with GT500 level power, it will also have GT500 prices.
The thread is about saving the Mustang, not pricing it into oblivion.

i never said the cheap engine option would go anywhere. Just thst the v8 turbo would far access anything tje 4 or 6 could ever offer.

doesn’t have to be gt500 power - but the gt500 could then power tje zr1.

I’m not advocating everything habe gt500 power. But your point saying they’d all have gt500 prices is incorrect. In fact if all mustangs had the same engine, costs would decrease dramatically due to economies of scale.

also, even if the fi 8 was gt500 power, it doesn’t mean the whole car has tje be gt500 everything.

it’s also a myth that we have to pay for capability. In reality it’s just the R&D, parts, labor, and marketing we pay for. Anything above is made up fluff.

take the booster 8 and apply it to trucks too and the R&D cost added to each vehicle is very minimal.

Most of the work is already son. The 5.2 and coyote are fi ready as is. And Ford has the turbo tech down pat. The only R&D is very minimal in terms of packaging and tuning. Not a big deal at all.

a turbo 8 makes sense. Just needs to overcome personal agenda of some boardroom seat occupiers.

Coyote engines are all produced in Canada.
Ok, but the question becomes more expensive for ‘who’? Global company with less risk is more capable of absorbing projected operating costs.

The answer is always the same: consumer.
