A young at heart 64yo here.
I started my interest in cars tuning dual carbs with a vacuum guage on Hemi motors, rebuilding both Carter and Holley carbs as well. Ahh the good old days :)
What, you needed to use a gauge?

I used to know old timers who could synchronize the carbs on a Bonneville or a Commando purely by ear! I could never quite get the hang of it but I loved watching them do it.

Suck!

Maybe i am old but physical buttons/wheels are just to easy.

While it is not complicated it is just wonky how it works.
It really is shit. Fan speeds could have been more selective like PWM controls. I am OK with touch controls as in our 2015 MKX, so I know the tech has been there for about a decade.

@sarahestelle ..... yeah I'm in that club too (I can feel the grim reaper sneaking up behind me) that said, I love the tech in my 2024 GT. Full disclosure I made-up some new words when I was trying to move about 800 songs from my old apple iPod through a computer to my android phone and then have it synch to the Mustang's B&O system to allow steering wheel scrolling through my playlist - but I got it done. To be honest, it works better with a c cable than wireless, but both do work.......and the &^%$# car talks back to me. So far it has told me to keep two hands on the steering wheel and that maybe I need a rest. Geez - I get less driving advice from my grand daughter. Who usually wants to go faster and corner harder. She's 15 and thinks she's going to get this car to drive her and her gang in a year. That's waaay too funny.
My 9-year-old told me I was speeding in a parking lot. I was going 18! I asked him if he had a backseat drivers license.
I get the lost network use usb a lot. It’s driving me crazy. Wonder what I’m doing wrong. Hands at 10 and two lol

I don’t get the complaint… I set my perfect temperature the day I bought the car, haven’t touched it in a year plus.
The fan speed can be more bothersome than temperature in some instances. I like to have the air blowing directly at my face, and if the sun comes through the windshield or I just got done working out or whatever, I may want to adjust the fan speed, and it’s just something that was easier to do with a physical button.

For the type of person that sets a temp, turns on auto, and doesn't fiddle with it, I'm sure the experience is better.

I’ll tell you one more thing about the on-screen fan blower control. You better make your choice and touch the screen fast. Real fast or it disappears! Honestly if I need to make any adjustments at all to the HVAC system it’s far easier and safer to just pull over.

I’ve gotten used to the looks of the screen and I’m kinda ok with it. But for the most part, I’m not ok with the function of stuff you use all the time like the above mentioned A/C controls. You can’t beat knobs, buttons and switches for efficiency. But it is what it is. Still overall a terrific car!

And yeah I’m 75 too but I do still chew my own food.

The vacuum gauge was used to tune idle for the best mixture as well as balance between the multiple carbs and base timing as well.. You are correct that much could be done by ear as well, especially timing, but learning to use and read a vacuum gauge was a critical skill. TBH I love things these days where the computers just make it work.

As I have found something's annoying, I have the "never stop learning" mindset so it is not a big deal.

That's what you're doing wrong. Hands should be at 9 and 3 now --- if the airbag goes off, hands at 10 and 2 could lead to punching yourself very hard in the face and breaking your nose or worse.

And I agree with others on the touchscreen controls. In my wife's Lincoln I don't have to look over there, I can reach down and feel the buttons and know which button I need to turn the heated seat on, or the heated steering wheel, or to adjust the fan speed or the temperature.

@Farmer Fran ....geez you sound like an old geezer. LOL ..... Come on you can get used to that screen in a day then it's awesome.
I wouldn’t exactly call it awesome. Passable where I don’t hate it is more accurate.

A physical fan speed dial instead of a radio volume knob would have been much better.

It boggles my mind why there is a physical volume knob when I have searing wheel controls for that, but not a fan knob.

Those warnings were the first thing I turned off. I don’t need my car to tell me I can’t one hand cruise.

Before bashing the lack of a full-suite of climate buttons as we've grown accustomed to over the past decades, I would suggest that folks try the auto-climate feature in earnest. It works quite well on this car, as does the climate system in general, and feels far more advanced and better tuned than similar auto options in years past. I think it works faster and better than the regular fan setting at cooling/heating the car.

Perhaps most importantly before proclaiming the system's fate, make sure you test the three settings within auto: high, medium, or low, which allow you to vary airflow significantly. If an adjustment is needed, you only need to press the auto button, which is visible without any submenus.

As for temperature, I think that is often best set once per year or season (if you have seasons where you live). 68 in summer, 72 in winter? Or at minimum, the temperature shouldn't be needing regular mid-drive adjustments?

To be sure, the whole point of auto climate is to let the vehicle adjust the temperature, so you, the driver, can focus on driving while your target temperate is achieved and maintained by the vehicle without further input from you.

And if the climate is well-regulated, do you really need all those buttons?

@steveo1960 ...... ain't that the truth?! BTW .... don't forget using a big screw driver to place around the block, valve covers etc to check valves, tappets, cylinders then against your ear to listen for tell tale sounds of trouble. That and also a decent timing light.

So it is all well and good until you are baking in the New Mexico sun. My car can be 68 degrees but the sun beating through my windshield does not make it feel like 68.

@Hasler74 ..... at first I didn't like the screen. Then the boss (aka the wife) told me to either stop whining or trade it for a 2023. She voluntold me to sit in it for a while and run through all of its options. I had already downloaded much of the 2024 manual. I sat in the car for about an hour on a Sat/Sun with a couple of beers, some Cheetos and the manual sections..... voila I learned to really like it. Now after 6 months I think its awesome. yeah I do forget some of the stuff but i just haul out the manual - yes directions are faster and it's good. Someone on a Mustang forum said to buy a microfiber cloth to clean the "glass" with and store it in a plastic bag between washings to not get dirt onto the cloth - and - to use filtered water to damp the cloth. Worked 5 star, clean it all the time no scratches.
