This is the one I use.

Clore Automotive PL2320 20-Amp Fully-Automatic Smart Charger, 6V and 12V Battery Charger, Battery Maintainer, and Stable Power Supply with Temperature Compensation https://a.co/d/cYsDHgs
@evant8950, that is also the exact same one I use for FDRS and FORScan programing. It has a legit "power supply" mode.

Cool. I think I will try to do the updates. Ill just get the mongoose on amazon and I can return it within 30 days since I don't think I will have a regular need for it. It doesn't look too bad to do the updates after watching a couple videos on different people doing the updates themselves.

I just received my mongoose today and the power supply. I set my laptop setup with FDRS today. I am going to run the updates tomorrow. I will post an update when the update is complete.

Many people have reported issues logging in to FDRS for the first time. Be prepared to troubleshoot that part of the process.

Yes. I did have some problems with the initial login. So far all the modules are updated except the APIM. It was taking too long to transfer it to my usb drive, but I was using a USB 2.0 drive. I am going to use a faster USB 3.1 drive so my computer can transfer the files faster.

The car still starts and is rolling after doing all of the other module updates. So far so good.

The APIM files will take forever to download regardless of what USB drive you use. It's about 6 GB's and download speeds from Ford's servers are painfully slow. Start it when you have some time and let it be. Remember to turn off the 30 minute idle time so the touchscreen stays on while it is downloading the files to prevent a disconnect and having to start over. If you car is in a secure place, just leave the laptop downloading and go out to it every 30 minutes or so until it's done. No need to babysit the process.

Success. I was able to update all of the modules. One failed at first because the ignition wasn't on, so that may be my fault. It successfully update on the second try. The APIM takes a very long time to update. Thank you everyone for all of the help and explaining what tools to use to perform the updates manually!

Wow, I’m currently at just over a month. My guess is I live in a bad cell area and downloading multiple Gigabytes of data over cellular will take a while. Just didn’t think it would be this bad.

Do you live in a bad cell area?

When the first update was done, the car was still in NH.

The car stayed in NH for another six weeks before going to Florida, where it has been sitting in my garage since the middle of August.

The car is on a battery tender so the electronics should be working.

I can get the info for the car from the FordPass app, which I assume is using a cellular modem as I did not enter the network password for the FL house in the car yet.

Why they don't allow owners to hit a button to see if they have the latest software is beyond me.
