Hello fellow mustang owners, I am wondering if it is normal that the steering is generally heavy on this car? on normal / comfort / sport, the steering wheel generally is heavy. I am coming from a Mazda 6 2015 model, so im wondering in general if it is normal. I remember i rented s550 2021 model and comfort mode felt way better.

Thanks in advance.

You need to lift wore weightsā€¦lol jk

The steering wheel does feel ā€œheavyā€ compared to a family sedanā€¦. I believe that is by design to give the steering a weighty /sporty feeling. I believe the steering feel changes also on which mode you put the car in as well.

Haha I got the same comment from a friend today šŸ˜ I got used to it but I drive my two cars from time to time, so I immediately feel the difference between the two, at first it was annoying but overtime it became the norm. However I still wondered if it is generally normal :D It feels the same on all modes honestly.

The steering is noticeably lighter on my 24 Mustang GT than on my 19 Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody.

Go to the dealership, ask to try out another Mustang for comparison to rule out that your Mustang has a steering issue. I find the steering wheel not light as a feather, but just right, meaning when you go over bumps, the steering wheel doesn't get knocked off center, how it works on other cars.

If my ā€˜24 GT steered any lighter you could just mentally levitate it to turn itself without touching the steering wheel. Itā€™s SO much lighter feeling effort to turn compared to my ā€˜23s that itā€™s frankly a bit disconcerting.

I did a test drive on a 2023, I think it was a Challenger. The 4-door. Automatic Transmission.
I believe the 2ā€“door was the Charger.
This was last Spring.
The Challenger has the 392 Hemi Scat Pack.
It was very Quick and Fast.
The Harmon Carden 18- Speakers Sound System was Excellent.
The Challenge is a Large, Heavy 4-Door.
The Steering seemed very Heavy compared to the GT Mustang.
The GT is more Fun to Drive.

It shouldn't be. The '24 should feel heavier than previous years.

We've allowed ourselves to be taken over by too many assists. For example, these days you can't buy any new vehicle without air, power brakes, and power steering. Nonetheless imagine yourself sitting in a 1950 Ford with its power nothing (not even under the hood!), sitting on its only available bench seats (no side support), trying to parallel park? So quit the sissy stuff, and buck up!

To me it feels lighter, at least compared to my Grand Cherokee SRT.

Nope, 100% the other way on mine. Not even close. So light it was disconcerting to tell the truth. Mine had the 255/40-19 Contis on it, donā€˜t know if that was a factor or not. Felt like the front tires had about 80 psi in them but they were adjusted perfectly. It was a great car but I just couldnā€™t get used to this. Wound up at about 1200 miles trading it for a DH.

I even posted a thread about it a while back.

EDIT: I should add that my DH steering is back to feeling right, very similar to the Mach 1. But my DH is a HP car with 305/315 Trofeos so that might be a factor, IDK.

It definitely has a lot to do with the tires. The steering is still pretty light in comparison to a lot of cars, but I ran through the Trofeos and put some Pilot Sport 4s on it and it makes a noticeable difference. I don't mind it, but it does make hard cornering feel a little unsure. Granted, I am coming from a heavily modified 2004 miata :cwl:

Unsure is a good descriptor.

Iā€™d say the light feel is totally different from the S550 cars. Iā€™m not sure how they made the steering ratio quicker yet simultaneously made the effort lighter. I guess unlike pre EPAS days steering effort isnā€™t directly related to steering ratio and they can twist up the boost however they want.
