Thoughts?

$110K+ is a stretch for me for mostly a GT with a whipple and some stripes, and no convertible option. At that price point I'd prefer a brand new Z06 or a 718 Cayman/Boxster GTS 4.0, although similar to the Super Snake I do like the hood and front grille, and I understand this will appeal to some people who want a nice middle ground between a GT and Super Snake.

No thanks. You are better off with a GT Premium and install a Whipple and supporting mods. Boom you saved $40,000

It’s actually a lot more than just a GT with a whipple. It’s got suspension, some light weighting, and various considerations tying it together. With a warranty. And the Shelby lineage.

so I think the price is about right considering this inflationary era of staggeringly high prices of … everything.

hopefully things get back to normalcy in terms of affordability within two to three years. It’s like the whole world went psychotic when COVID hit and we haven’t seen the smoke clear yet. But cooler heads are running things in at least son places, so hopefully we see the fruit of thst sooner than later.

until then, I think the Shelby price is about what it should be. And I’d trust my life with this car much more than a GT thst I had some parts bolted onto.

I think they’ve done a good job and addressed everything in a balanced way.

the only change I think they should have made is with the manual option instead of the standard transmission.

I wouldn't do it. That's a lot of money to swallow just to have the shelby name on it. I paid 1/2 that price for my GT350 and it's a far superior vehicle than these souped up GT's that Shelby America is producing. Just my opinion......

Shelby is just a name plate at this point. It's just a bunch of engineers on both sides building the basically the same car. Mr Shelby has had no impute in any car in the last ten years. As much as everyone screams Shelbys are the only good Mustang I say go ahead and pay $40,000 for a name. My Dark horse 6spd with it's whipple could easily keep up with the GT 350 on the track anyday.

Shelby has its own very capable engineers. Let’s not forget they designed and built the tuatara
Which was the world’s fastest car at the time. Shelby has the longest racing heritage of any tuner out there snd a very close working relationship with Ford. They know how to curate the right parts and modify as needed.

They’re much more than “just a badge.”

I agree that they have good engineers. I would actually argue that you get what you pay for when you buy one, however having said that, because of the 2020-2021 inflation spike, it now costs $160K for a car that would've cost $80K in 2019, and most people simply don't have that kind of disposable income. Salaries didn't double with the costs of everything else, and lower demand keeps the price point even higher. The reason crossovers and small SUV's are so cheap is because they're in such high demand, which drives the manufacturing coats lower. Also, it doesn't help that Ford really is doing a great job with their base model mustang. They have no competition for what you get for the price, without spending $10K+ more for a corvette, porsche, etc. Shelby really has to stretch thrse days to make something substantially different from the GT.

I bought my GT from a Ford dealer that gets a Shelby allocation and had 3 in their showroom, and the sales manager said he sees a lot more people just buying a GT and installing a $10K whipple than people interested in Shelby's because of their price point these days.

I don't blame Shelby, I think they're doing a great job and are making beautiful cars, it's just a tough environment to be selling anything at a premium in an inflation-burdened economy where people can't afford "excess" as much as they used to, and are more often looking for deals and bang-for-the-buck.

im betting a Dark Horse with a whipple will turn better times then the S650 gt350 with a whipple … all past Las Vegas built Shelby’s have done horribly in reviews … disconnected is what is often said … the impression has been they just throw parts on a car add stripes… no real tuning like Steeda …

I’m a Shelby guy and I would take a Dark Horse with a whipple way before the new S650 GT350…

Well said.

The exception to this whole conversation in my opinion is the Shelby Gt350 engineered by Ford Performance from 2015-2020 (particlarly the R model).
I would be interested to see a track lap review of the Dark horse vs the S550 GT350 driven by the same professional driver (Randy Probst perhaps?).
That is the only true test as to whether a car is superior on the track vs another.
I've had cars of less capability lap me on the track because my driver mod is pretty low.
It doesn't represent the full capability of my GT350 vs another car.

That is what he's saying, the Ford designed/built Shelbys are great, but the things that Shelby America makes (Supersnake, this new GT350, etc) are nothing but a badge/stickers/bolt-ons.

The 2016 GT350R, Dark Horse and Mach 1 all ran 2:51 in the Car and Driver Lightning Lap (Grande section at VIR)

FWIW the 2018 Mustang GT PP2 ran 2:53, 2020 GT500 went 2:44

Disclaimer: These were not all run on the same day with the same driver

Thanks for the info... hard to quantify the variables, but let's just say all the cars are very capable. Man, that GT500 is an engineering marvel! How they ever got that heavy beast to be so nimble is beyond me.....
I wouldn't trade my 350 for it because I want a manual transmission and not in love with the front end.. but what a car!
Love this video..
