oh yeah, that connector is a nightmare to reach let alone disconnect. best of luck, you're gonna need every bit of it
Yeah, not a single chance. Spent 2 hours figuring out how that connector works and how to release it. Lost 1 gallon of sweat. I'm back in my bed recovering 🤣

just be glad you're not messing with the active exhaust connectors. they are locking and in an area that gets a lot of dirt. i had to use a small screwdriver to release the locks and very nearly punctured my finger with it. the screwdriver got the last laugh, though, because a week later i was using it to push wires into an RJ45 connector and i did puncture my finger. never bled so fast in my life

Lol, I'll never mess with things I couldn't do.
I thought I could do this. I saw more than 10 video's and understood every step.
But for a person who never saw connectors in his life, it's a mission impossible to do this blindy.
I need to know how it looks like and where to press.

Some video's they say you just have to press a tab and it will disconnect. Wish this connector was not hidden. What a shit connector I'm so pissed. 🤣

Okay, I need some help from the tech guys.

I found a picture on the internet of the door harness connector that I have to release the side mirror connector from.

So this is the thing that has a tab somewhere to press so I can release the connector.

Can somebody tell me where the tab is and how I need to press it to release the cable?

Because all of this I have to do blindly

cause this connector is hidden and can only do this by feeling.

I gave it a second try. This time it took me 1.5 hours to disconnect the connector. No succes.

The area is too small and too tight.

I tried a different way. Unbolt the 3 bolts of the side mirror, release the side mirror and let it dangle, then the connector gets verticle. Somebody said its easier to disconnect it that way. Nope, still impossible.

There was another video who said you have to use a flat screwdriver to get inside the connector to release it. For some reason I can't find the lip blindly when having the screwdriver in my hand. The area is too tight to find it blindly.

In total I was busy for 5 hours.
3.5 hours was only trying to disconnect the connector.

I'm getting desperate.

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble...

That same connector is used in these places... may help to look at one that you can actually see.
  • Connector - Inline
  • Lamp - Front Turn
  • Lamp - Headlamp - High/Low Beam
  • Mirror - Sideview / Heated
  • Module - Battery Energy Control
  • Module - Extended Power
  • Module - Gear Shift
  • Module - Glow Plug
  • Module - Transmission Ranger Control
  • Trailer Tow - Vehicle Side

Do you have any idea which one is the easiest to reach?

I looked on my car, they all appear to be hard to get to.

Push down on the tab (circled) while pulling apart.

Thanks so much. I think I might pull it out today!
I'll go try it in 30 minutes! Will let you know. But I have a feeling this might work now!!

It looks like this connector here has the same type of tab (different connector).. located on right fender, below the fusebox. You will need to push down on tab... usually pretty hard. at least you can see how it should work.

You are a HERO!!

Not only I disconnected the connector, but the turn signals are PLUG & PLAY!!!!

Now I'm super mad at Ford why they didn't give me my side mirrors with turn signals since I have the 401A equipment group!!

Ford is really cuttings costs with stupid excises like "you have a different door harness because you have Recaro seats an no memory function.

Yes I have a different door harness because of my Recaro seata but it's plug and play you stupid chicken nugget!!!!

I worked the whole day since 12pm on this.
But at the end, it saved me a LOT of money, because it's plug and play.

And also one other thing. Now I know why the garage in my country (The Netherlands), who worked on Mustangs and who does this job on a daily base didn't want to tell me that it's plug and play.

They told me they had done a few S650 with the same options as my car and that they had to run wires and calculated 15 working hours exluding the parts.

This means that they had knowledge, but wanted to still charge me on work that they are not even doing.

And they get away with it because they are one of the few experts on Mustangs in the country.
