Are the side mirrors with turn signals plug and play?

Someone (anyone) just needs to pop a door panel and look...
I don't think it's only that. We found out that the cable is there, but it's still unclear if the wire is working and if so, we still haven't figured out if programming is needed.

If the wire is there, just a simple matter of putting a voltmeter or test light on it and see if it's on wwith turn signals...
I have never had anything like that in my hands.
But with some good instructions maybe I can ask a person who knows how to work with that.

With my stupid basic logic I have to put the volt meter in the pin of the turn signal and it should read "dead" or "0" when the turn signal is off and it should read "alive" or some number when I put the turn signal on?

This can get me 1 step further. But the other step is, if testing with the volt meter says "dead" on both tries, it could still mean 2 things.

1. It needs programming.
2. The cable might be in the door harness as it comes standard in that harness but it still could be that the wire is not going through all the way to the BCM.

Well, if I had any reason to pull a door panel I would check (no reason at this time). If I were to do it, I would have forescan at the ready, if there were no volts there with turn signal on, I would see if I could program it to work, while I had the door panel off.

I have never used Forescan, but I might have an idea.

We know that all Premium Mustangs (at least the GT's) have the turn signal wire included in the harness but not all GT Premium Mustangs have turn signals.

This means that somebody that has a Premium Mustang with no turn signals can check in Forescan if the turn signal function is already enabled or disabled.

With this information we don't have to take off the door panel.

Today I spoke to an owner of a S550 who had to add turn signals to his Mustang.

He said that the only thing he had to change were the mirror caps and add the turn signal units. No need to buy the whole side mirror unit for the swap.

If this is the case, than it would be even easier. Anybody can verify if the S650 is the same?

Guys, anybody got further with this?

My side mirrors will arrive next week I hope.
I will solve this mystery very soon (or not).

Does anybody know what I have to change in Forscan to enable the turn signals if I find out it's not plug and play?

Update:

It turns out that my car does NOT have DDM and PDM. I just plugged my Forscan cable in the car.

This means side mirrors with turn signals will not work unfortunately. I'm really pissed off :(

Now I have to trust some random "mechanic" on this island who will screw up with the factory wiring to make the turn signals work. I'm going to wait until I found another solution.

According to the wiring diagrams, if there are no DDM or PDM, the turn signal wiring comes from the BCM. All may not be lost... still need to open a door and look...

I will open the door when my side mirrors come in next week. But I have no clue where to look and what to look for. Any idea?

I also can't find anything in Forscan about turn signals in the BCM section. Only DDM and PDM.

Plugging in the new mirrors with turn signals is a way to test if there wiring is there?

While I can't say that no forscan programming is needed... plugging in the mirrors would certainly tell if the wires are there and enabled. You can look at the plug and see if pin #3 is populated (in case it doesn't work)... and there appears to be loads of stuff referring to "turn_lamp" in BCM forscan spreadsheet, if programming needed (can't say where the setting is for sure either).

What I know is that the connector is hidden in the hollow area in the edge of the door.

When installing the mirrors, you can't see the connector and you have to put your hands inside a small speaker hole to release the plug from the connector blindy.

The connector is behind the metal where his finger is pointed. Definitely makes it hard to inspect it.

I hope it's plug and play but @A4techpl told me that it's not and you should tap the wire from the front headlights or rear lights.

It appears there is no DDM or PDM without memory seats... turn signal wiring shown there is directly from the BCM.
You were correct from the beginning.
I made an appointment on the 31st of this month at a garage.
Then we will find out if I have to add wires. I really hope not :(

So I have new information on the wiring of the turn signals on the side mirror.

The wiring from the BCM all the way to the door connector C311 and C313 is there.
But it will not be plug and play because the door harness that is connected to the C311 and C313 does not have the connector/module/wiring for the turn signals.

Only the 401A door harness has the right connector to get the turn signals to work.
This also makes logical sence, why Ford did not add side mirrors with integrated turn signals to my vehicle, since I do have the 401A but do not have the 401A door harness because of my Recaro seats.

My Recaro seats cancelled out the option for me to have the door harness of the 401A, and instead I have the Premium door harness which does not support turn signals.
The only strange thing is that on Ford OEM part websites, they claim that the Premium door harness that I have does support turn signals. I guess that information is not correct and is copied from the older S550 Mustangs where all Premium door harnesses support turn signals.

So when installing the new side mirrors in the connector of the door harness, it will not communicate with the C311 and C313 connectors because of the missing link.

The only way to connect them is to add the missing wires to the door harness.
But the easiest way is to splice the turn signal cable from the front or rear of the vehicle directly to the turn signals.

That's also the way I'm going to do it.
